I am moving to NYC next month, and have lined up a roommate online. I sent her the deposit for the room yesterday.
I’m a little paranoid by nature, and always like to have a backup plan. In the event my roomie backs out of our agreement, I was thinking it would be helpful to know of cheap motels I could check into until I find more stable housing.
Anyone from the area know of any specific super-cheap motels? I would like the name and general location.
What’s your idea of super cheap? Or at least, your upper limit?

There ae some Holiday Inns and Howard Johnsons in chinatown and the Lower East side. None are cheap by national standards, but maybe you can haggle them since its not really a touristy season.
I’m thinking around $50 a night. I have found some online that are shared bath for around that price.
There’s always the HI Youth Hostel. Its reputable, safe, and cheap, although quite inconveniently located.
