Poor Brit needs a place to stay in NYC!

I’ve finally decided to take the plunge and visit the Big Apple. I’ve booked my flight, but even though I’m travelling on my own, I’m having a hard time finding a place to stay that’s within my budget. Now I’m not picky - I don’t care how small the room is as long as it’s clean and in Manhattan. And of course it has to be cheaper than cheap. Money’s tight and I’d rather spend what little I have actually enjoying myself rather than on the room. I’ll be arriving on the 5th and staying for 9 nights, so has anyone got any suggestions? Even better - does anyone have a spare room I could rent?

Cheers,
Bib

I don’t live in NYC but I know that there are some youth hostels (don’t know if you qualify) throughout the states in the big cities. They are cheaper than cheap and make for an interesting experience. My youngest sister did some travelling around the States and Mexico that way and didn’t feel like it was an inconvenience. I’m sure an actual NYC doper will show up and tell you more about the area.

Oh, the hostel that I know about in DC is in a pretty bad part of town like most hostels are, but don’t let that deter you from travelling.

I took a look at some of the hostels listed on www.hostels.com, and they don’t look too bad. I don’t mind sharing a dorm with five other guys, so as long as the room is clean and the Hostel isn’t out in the middle of nowhere, I think I might give it a shot.
