Just because you don’t like them doesn’t mean they’re not good candidates. They’re just candidates for whom you would not vote. Looking at it with the benefit of being several thousand miles away, every single one of the major candidates (I’ve not looked into the minor parties / candidates and independents) is a person of intellect, distinction, and ability. Clinton (despite my dislike of her), Obama, Richardson, Huckabee, McCain, Romney, Thompson, etc etc. I don’t think America will do badly whoever is elected.
While I would not vote for any of the Republicans, Republicans’ disappointment with the current field has been palpable for most of this year.
Excepting McCain and Romney, the gaps in the main GOP candidates’ knowledge of current issues is enormous, as reflected by both the things they’ve said and by their websites.
That’s what most people thought when Bush and Gore were contending for the Presidency. I think that position’s landed firmly in history’s circular file.
