Check out Google!

Five gingerbread people of varying shades, with different gender designations. Adorable!

Must be just your country’s version. :frowning:
What does it mean, anyway?

January 20th is Martin Luther King’s birthday. (That would explain why you can’t see it outside of the US.) So Google is displaying an assortment of gingerbread people who are not to be judged by their color, but by their sugar content!

Very, very cool, then.
Thanks, Rilchiam.

Google actually does stuff like that a lot, for different holidays and seasons. Some parodies of the Google logo, which I find amusing: link

OK I’m officially clueless. I saw that and thought “Hrmmm, google usually only alters its logo on holidays and special occasions, what is today, cookie day?”

Since I don’t really watch tv or listen to the radio I kept forgetting it was MLK day.

I vaguely knew it was MLK Day today (or sometime this week), but this thread reminds me of something that happened about three years ago. A few of us were at Missions Fest, eating dinner before we went to the plenary session.

Nathan told Brian how my brother had told him about a friend of his having Montezuma’s Revenge (i.e. diarrhea) on their trip to Russia. The other person at the table besides me (Justin) misheard this as “Martin Luther’s Revenge!” Very funny… we figured that he’d had a bit too much of MLK Day. (and we live in Canada, even! )

Note: as far as I’m aware, the five of us who were at the table that night fully support MLK and the ideas he was trying to promote. We weren’t making fun of MLK or the media coverage that we’d heard. Just saying this in case I get flamed for posting this funny incidental story.

Don’t worry, people aren’t that sensitive here. After all, this is MPSIMS, not the pit :).

Is Martin Luther’s Revenge what it’s called when you get diarrhea in the German city of Worms?

Actually, you can have Montezuma’s Revenge only in Mexico. You can still have diarrhea in Russia, but it would appropriately be called Trotsky’s Revenge – the Trots, for short…

That is equally bigoted, they should only be judged according to their personality. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey, you never know with some people around here… but thanks muchly for the reassurances, Cisco.

Eeeeewwww… worms in diarrhea… where’s the pukey smiley when you need it?

But seriously though, I have NO idea… nobody I know has ever been to that city, so I don’t know what they call diarrhea over there.

In that case, I’d better tell my brother and his Campus Crusade friends to be extra careful when they go to Mexico in a few weeks!

Waaah! I don’t see this. I’m using http://www.google.com/
What URL do you use?

It was only on MLK day Violet.

Thanks, Cisco. Someone has not been paying attention! C’est moi. :o
The above smilie looks like a sleeper rather than an embarrassed one.

You can see what it looked like here.

The obligatory link to the archive of Google Doodles. They’ve done some really neat ones over the past few years and there is a story on the guy who draws them as well.

Enjoy,
Steven

I agree, I always thought it should be called a yawnie. I don’t see how it conveys embarrassment at all.

Thanks, vertigo and Mtgman for the links. Looks like I missed all the variations and themes. Dennis Hwang does great work. And - he’s cute!

Maybe it’s a mouth breather sleeping!
