It was in the 20’s last night here in SC, and when I got to work I noticed this “icicle” on the stairway to my office.
It looks like the support was full of water (it rained Saturday), and it got pushed out as the water froze & expanded.

Cool, eh?
That is pretty cool. I got some pictures of a cool icicle when I was on my retreat, it was a very wet snow and it basically slid off the roof, had come down by about a foot or more at the tip with several icicles sticking off the end.
see?
Hm. No funky icicles, but I do have a picture somewhere of a donut-shaped hailstone that fell in our back yard.

That’s exactly what I was thinking.
No, no, no… an icicle comes down from the ceiling, remember? And an igicle comes up from the ground.
This one formed on a handrail, so it’s an ihicle.
Nice pics, LT .
I didn’t shoot this photo, but I do have this very cool picture hanging in my office. It’s a signed print by Brad Dawber with a very detailed description typed on the back that reads…
The Snow Wave was photographed while I was a heli-ski guide in Bridgeport, CA. It was shot on the top of Eagle Peak, at 12000 ft. The winter of 79-80 was a good one and we had received up to 4 ft. of new snow in the previous 24 hours. The winds on the ridges were gusting up to 30 mph and the temperature was about 35 below zero. We landed the helicopter, exited with the group for the first run of the day. Across the ridgetop there were about a dozen of these formations, this one being the most pronounced. The combination of the wind, temperature, and new snow were the factors that led to their form. It was about 4 feet tall and very hard to the touch. When we returned an hour later for another run, the “Waves” were completely gone, knocked down by the wind. It was a classic example of being in the right place at the right time!! The photo was published in both Surfer and Powder magazines in the early 80s.
For more freaky icicles, there’s the artistry of Andrew Goldsworthy .
Last winter there were interesting pictures published of Snow Donuts .
Now I’m picturing living icicles, slowly creeping up the sides of everyone’s houses / buildings…
That is seriously awesome. thumps up to labtrash

They are out for blood - and this time it’s seasonal . Red Ice . Coming soon to an eave near YOU .
IIRC there’s been stories of snow doughnuts/snow balls “snowballing” into gigantic dimensions after being pushed down a long steep hill.
