Checked Bag Question

I fly with Jetblue most of the time whether in the usa or international. I almost always have a checked bag and its a decent size luggage thats close to 50lbs. This time i will have a checked bag but the bag is really small. Basically its like a gym size duffel bag. It will weigh probably at the most 20lbs. That should be no issue at all right? I think this bag could be a carry on as well but since i already have a carry on… which is a messenger bag… then no issue with this as a checked bag?

Another question i have is this. Im familar with you cant have liquids over a certain size in your carry on. If thats the case, no issue with liquids in that gym size duffel bag of mine then right when putting it as a checked bag? Reason i ask is b/c i would have some bigger size face wash and other things that i like to bring with me etc where the place im going… they dont have it.

The liquid restrictions apply to carry on only, as far as I know. For a small bag you could check it, but since checked baggage can get lost why not just bring it on board with you. I don’t really see a downside in doing that, unless you forget and leave it on the plane…

You can absolutely check a small bag. I have a small boarding bag that I check along with my larger suitcase. There are no restrictions on liquids in your checked baggage - just make sure that they are securely packed.

The downside in carrying the bag on would be that he would be unable to bring the large size liquid containers.

Because i already have a checked messenger bag. So wouldn’t me having another gym bag thus be an issue?

Yes the other thing is i cannot put any big liquids in it which is what i want to do …
The thing is my checked bag is like a small-medium size gym bag… so its pretty small if you know what i mean. Because now i come to think of it, I haven’t seen that as checked luggage much.

As long as it closes securely, it should not be a problem.

You can have one carry on and one personal item such as a purse or laptop bag. So long as the personal item can fit under the seat you’re fine. I usually travel with a carry on roller board and a back pack. Sometimes I also have checked bags sometimes not.

You can not have liquid containers larger than 3.4 ounces in the cabin. It’s the container size that matters not the actual liquid content. If you need to travel with liquids larger than 3.4 ounces they must go in a checked bag.

There is no real minimum size for checked bags, though I’d be careful as the smaller they are the easier they can be lost.

What is a “roller board?”

Chester drawers on wheels.

It should be “roll aboard”. It’s an item of luggage designed to conform to typical airline carry-on size limitations, but with wheels so that you can roll it rather than carry it.

I have seen problems where small bags get stuck in the handling machinery at the airport. I would go for one with a hard shell rather than something soft and squishy.

If I pack a lot of raw meat in my roller board, does that make it a carrion bag?

Can the OP decant his face wash into several smaller bottles so he can carry them on? Does that look suspicious-- 6 little bottles with identical liquid in them?

If they’ll fit into the freedom baggie, it’s OK. Six bottles may be a snug fit, and the OP may well end up spending more on little bottles than the face wash is worth.

No limits to how much face wash can be in a checked bag, but I’d be really wary about putting liquids in a soft squishy duffle bag, and would expect to receive a wet duffle bag at the end of the flight. If you’re lucky, the handlers will put the small bag in a bin so the belts don’t eat it, but I would not be willing to bet on that actually happening.

Holy crap, how have I been a frequent flyer for so long and never realized this? “Roller board” never made any sense to me, but I just figured whatever, there’s probably some reason. :smack:

Ignorance fought.

I used to travel with a gym bag. They have containers they put the bag in so there is no problem kind of like the containers you put your shoes, belt, jacket in during security check, only slightly bigger.

The downside to carrying it aboard is that you have to find space for it. The upside is if Jet Blue charges for a second bag. Never flown them, so don’t know.

“roller board” is to “roll aboard” as “chester drawers” is to “chest of drawers”

Uh, so which is the checked bag and which is the carry-on again?

My brother has a friend that always checks his bag even though it is quite small.

They fly together often and one time my brother asked why he never just carries his bag on board. “I can’t reach the over head bins”, was his “vertically challenged” friend’s reply.
