Checking about a possible "Cause Thread"

I don;t wanna bend the rules.

Is it okay to post about an offer Campbell’s Soup has this holiday season?

Click on this link

http://www.chunky.com/click_for_cans.asp

and Campbell’s will donate X amount of $ per click to feed the hungry & homeless this holiday season.

I know–“sounds like an Urban Legend”.

But I checked it out on Scopes, & it’s legit.

No strings.

Is this acceptable?

Sure. Click away. And happy holidays!

Uh – I can’t see where this campaign of Campbells will help the needy any more than they already do when they collect dented cans from the stores and send them on to redistribution centres of their choice. Clicking on their site looks to me just like attracting folks to see their ads.

See the Snopes article itself. Although they label the email campaign as “true”, they also say they were stonewalled by Campbells as to where the cans were going.

And yes, it says cans, not money.

From the Campbells site:

“Our Tackling Hunger™ campaign will result in donations of up to a total of 5 million cans of a variety of Campbell’s® soups on behalf of all 32 NFL™ teams. Click for Cans™ donations are made over the course of the year to a variety of hunger relief charities across the country, in NFL™ cities and in many other communities.”

Click or not, up to you. I assume you put in your time at your local homeless shelter and so know how those folks get fed and who really does it.

Actually, I once worked voluntarily for an organisation that helped folk in need get in touch with charitable organisations such as local churches who helped with food parcels, meals at Christmas, etc. Sorry if my query hit a sore point, I just questioned the notion of “click for cans” when it appears they’re (a) collected and given out anyway, and (b) the donee organisations seem to be on a list held under wraps. I did not mean to appear to stand in the way of the generosity of the members of this board.

Not at all. And hey, you may even be right; most cynicism in this world is hard-earned and is born from bitter and often painful experience.

Why don’t they give money, which these charities could use to buy food instead of serving up chunky whatevers to urban outdoorsmen? I dunno. Maybe you’re right and they are the dented cans and leftovers. Wouldn’t be the first time; there’s organizations all over the country that salvage food that would just be tossed and use it to feed the hungry.

My view on it, I just hope people get fed. If this works to get that happening, I’ll click on it. Heck, I’ll click twice.

who really does hope for the best . . . even as she usually expects the worst. And sadly, is rarely surprised.
