Cheers Fans: The Owners of "Cheers"?

Sam initially owned the bar, “Cheers”, correct? Then, he lost it, but I forget how. He ends up working for Rebecca Howe who usually mentions “Corporrate” as her boss(es). The top dog is supposedly an Evan Drake.

But, in one episode, I heard something I never picked-up on before. When Woody first meets Kelly, Rebecca is angry that Woody is going to ask Kelly’s (wealthy) father for his permission to date her. Rebecca has one line saying “You’re going to ask my boss of you can dat his daughter?” (or words to this effect). But, Kelly’s father is not Evan Drake, IIRC…so what’s the scoop here?

Later, that rich twit Robin comes to own “Cheers”. How did that come about? Last, doesn’t Sam get the bar back, perhaps by selling hios Corvette to raise the money? Very odd. Please give me the correct chronology of events with whatever clarifying details are needed, if you would be so kind. I never was a fan, but today it’s better than a lot of other alternatives.

Thanks,

Sam sold the bar when he left to sail around the world in his boat. The boat sank, so he came back to get a job.

Rebecca went through several bosses, and with it being a corporation, she probably had several levels of bosses at the same time as well. People get promoted, get fired, get transferred, and leave the company all the time.

I don’t believe Robin Colcord ever owned Cheers; in fact, at one point he was using his relationship with Rebecca to try to get to secret informatrion about her company. I believe Sam got he bar back by turning Robin in for his illegal activities, and Corporate rewarded him with the bar.

I am willing to be corrected on the details here; my memory is a bit fuzzy.

Yeah, Robin never owned Cheers. And IIRC Kelly’s father was never the owner either, maybe you are misremembering the “ask my boss” line. Or was he a higher-up in the corporation? I thought he was more an “old money” rich, and not executive rich.

IIRC, Kelly’s dad was Rebecca’s boss at one time. Remember when she had to organize a party at his house? I thought she had to do it because Kelly’s dad was her boss. It has one of my favorite scenes, where Rebecca got drunk during the organization, and tried to sing along with the opera singer.

We just saw the first episode with Kelly and her dad in it the other night. Rebecca was asked to throw the party at the Gaines house. She was all happy at the success of the party, and then Woody announced he was going to ask permission to date kelly, at which Rebecca flipped out – until she realized that if Woody became the boss’s son-in-law, it would give her a leg up.

I’m guessing that even if Mr. Gaines was “old money” rich, he was probably on several boards of directors or whatnot.

Sammy turned in Robin, or reported him to the corporation or something like that, and the corp. rewarded him by allowing him to buy back the bar for $1.00.

IIRC, he only had $0.79 on him at the time, so he “lowballed” them.

Evan Drake was merely the first of several bosses Rebecca had - she ended up with a crush on most of them. Kelly’s dad was one of the many.

And Sam didn’t even have the $.79 on him - he had to take up a collection.

Rebecca thought that Kelly’s father had asked her to the party as a guest. It turns out that he wanted her to cater the event and through this misunderstanding hilarity ensued.
