In fact, it’s rumored that David Icke wears a radiation suit and gas mask wherever he goes.

That’s not a helpful comparison; you would not believe how many people around here have trouble with roundabouts.

Viewed from above, round-abouts (traffic circles I assume you mean) look like alien landing sites. Very remiscent of the Nazca lines and crop circles. There’s certainly no logical explanation for their existence.

I’ll restrict myself to observing that most people who believe in this sort of thing believe in a whole raft of other elaborate conspiracies…and even if one or more of them are by some weird coincidence true, it’s beyond certain that they can’t ALL be true (many of them conflict with each other).

Therefore such people must know, on some level, they “believe” at least some things that cannot actually be true.

It’s irritating.

People who believe in these either can’t see the contradictions (seriously, have you ever really talked to one of these people? they can believe 3 different sets of “facts” before breakfast, simultaneously, and never notice the contradictions) or believe that the contradictions are only apparent and that at a deeper level, they are resolved and actually don’t contradict each other. They’ll say that the contradictions are proof that there is a conspiracy to hide the truth that makes them all work together, and if you can’t see that you’re either deluded or part of the conspiracy, and just what are you hiding from them, hmmmmmm?

I know I’m wasting my time, but what are these supposed to accomplish? What specific chemicals are being sprayed, and why? As with so many conspiracy theories, how come not a single one of the thousands of people (pilots, flight controllers, persons filling the presumed reservoirs installed on the aircraft, etc.) has ever come forward to discuss this? Lastly, if this has been going on for decades with no obvious effect on anything, why even bother?

Hah, your naivete (or worse) is showing. Lots of people say they’ve been sickened, killed or incommoded by chemtrails. Do the math.

Yeah, my mom was big into that for quite a few years. She got it from right-wing AM radio, and/or whatever scammers were sending her junk mail and magazines.

She got better once we finally got her into an appropriate living situation.

I had never heard it voiced by a real person until New Year’s Eve and have heard it several times since and if you do a search on twitter about it, it seems anything someone spots a vapour trail they take a photo and post it. This morning I saw a retweet from someone “Another lovely Irish morning. Don’t worry though, we’re not being sprayed like insects. They would never lie to us.” That was what prompted this thread.

Here’s the pic in question. And currently the upper airmass over Ireland is clear, cold and dry (of Arctic origin thanks to a northerly airflow) - perfect conditions for persistent vapour trails. Who’dathunkit?

I have a facebook friend that occasionally posts about chemtrails. I’ve known about them for years (the conspiracy theories surrounding contrails, that is), and have noticed several different factions of within the CT community. The largest faction basically says “It’s the government/Illuminati spraying us with toxic chemicals so they can control us.” Another faction claims it’s the government trying to obscure the sky from us. Some of these people say it’s because they’re trying to hide the presence of Nibiru, a wandering planet or red dwarf that is about to crash into/pass near earth and mess everything up. Others say it’s some sort of strange spiritual war against the sun. These people claim that there are spirits or gods in the sky called sylphs that attack and disperse chemtrails, thus protecting the sun and us. Apparently people will believe damn near anything.

I won’t lie, I’m fascinated by these CTs. A few of the people you see making Youtube videos and the like seem quite intelligent. What makes them fall for this stuff? And more importantly, how can I make money off of them?

Same here.

Chemtrails are probably my favorite conspiracy theory. Not as obnoxious as the 9/11 truthers or “Apollo was a hoax” types and lacking the ability to damage a persons’ life like the Free-man-on-the-land loons but still all-out batshit crazy.

Professing belief in chemtrails is a good indicator that crank-magnetism is going to be in full swing and its best to not even try to debate the issue. Pretty soon you’ll be knee-deep in assertions about mercury in vaccines, flouride in the water and Mayan end of the world prophecies.

Well they are spraying something - jet exhaust. But that’s not what they are seeing when they see a vapor trail.

One of my friends believes in chemtrails, that the earth is six thousand years old, that there is no such thing as evolution, and that Jesus saves. Some folks just gotta believe in something. Reason doesn’t come into it.

She insists that the sky is less blue each year due to chemtrails. Her proof is what she thinks she sees.

Maybe the airplanes are spraying sky-bluener to make it MORE blue?

I personally saw a number of planes leaving chemtrails just this past Saturday near Sacramento, CA. Not only that, but I know for a fact that the planes in question were owned and operated by the United States Government. They were leaving chemtrails in parallel lines, perpendicular ‘cross-hatching’, and even in some strange circular formations.

Unfortunately I was unable to get any good photographs of them at the time, but searching the web I was able to find some shots of the same type of plane. They looked just like this…

My God! It’s true! And it gets worse: we have them over here in the UK, too, and I have strong evidence that the planes belong to the Royal Air Force.

One path to riches involves starting a website and taking donations. You can advertise natural products to protect oneself from the toxic fallout.

Even better from a profit standpoint is the multilevel marketing concept, wherein you persuade seemingly sentient people that they can make money selling your stuff.
