Cheney shoots hunting companion

Perhaps Harry Whittington has Patrick Duffy for a leg?

Keep in mind that this was tall grass!

What I told my wife was that shooting a millionaire Texas lawyer was hitting a trifecta. But I wouldn’t post that here, since it would be nasty.

Cheney’s got a gun,
his whole world’s come undone,

Anybody want to set the odds on which show has the highest ratings tonight?

Leno
Letterman
Daily Show
Colbert
Kimmel
who else?

Anybody else gonna TiVo either Leno or Letterman while watching the other?

Which show(s) will have a re-enactmant?

Which show will have the most coverage in minutes?

Well, Whittington shouldn’t have been snoring so loud! :wally

Did he at least yell, “FORE!” before pelleting his companion with bullets? I mean, that’s the polite thing to do.

The details of how badly the gentleman was hurt, and why it took 24 hours for the news to be discussed by the White House.

In-Freaking-Credible.

Let’s see now. Shall we just turn the tables? Imagine if you will, how the Administration might handle this headline:

" Senatory Kennedy shoots fellow deep-sea fisherman with spear gun off coast of Martha’s Vineyard, goes public 24 hours later".

They’d be having conniptions. Why are they taking a pass on the Vice-President shooting a man in the face ( see cite above for proof ) and not immediately going public with every detail? Scott McLellan, he doesn’t like reporters who already know the truth, does he? Pity, that.

Amazing. :dubious:

for those who were wondering about “deadeye dick”, it was the headline on the front page of the phila daily news. with a picture of cheney holding a longarm.

Not sure if you’re being facetious, but you DO realize that Senator Kennedy left a woman submerged under pond water, in his car, and failed to report it until the next morning. Right?

Well hell, there goes my joke about no weights heavy enough for him to skin dive with…

Yeah. If this were Clinton or Gore, impeachment proceedings would already be taking place. For some reason.

Yes.

Og bless ya, ya got it. My point was that people in power get to take a pass. Normal schlubs, they actually have to take responsibility for it when they shoot someone. Not leave it to the owner of the property. -cough-

Cheney talked to the Kennedy County Sherriffs Office about the incident in a timely manner and sent a check to cover his lack of an upland bird game stamp on his non-resident license to Texas Parks and Wildlife after learning about the violation. And he kept informed about his friends condition at the hospital. He followed up pretty responsibly.

I’m curious what constitutes a “timely manner”.
And if I shot a lawyer…

The first thing that came to my mind was, Jeez, this guy can’t be trusted with a simple weapon of bird destruction, and he’s only a heartbeat away from the ultimate trigger.

I don’t know what Cheney was thinking. 28-gauge birdshot? That isn’t going to kill a lawyer! It’s barely enough to kill the damn birds! Sweet Jesus, man, ain’t you ever heard of 00-buckshot?

Seriously, it sounds like Whittington is going to be OK. I’m actually glad that nobody was racing to talk to the press. If I had accidently injured someone, my first concern would be to make sure the guy got proper medical attention. Then would come dealing with the authorities. Concerns about how newsworthy the event might be would be a very very distant third.

You don’t want to get me started about “celebrity justice,” but to my mind this is really no different than when someone is involved in a boating accident or a skiing accident or somesuch.

Incidentally, I wonder if Ted Kennedy will have anything to say about this. He’s the only other guy in Washington I can think of who might know how Cheney is feeling.

Yeah, see my ironic post above.

UnregisteredBull, define timely manner when a President can inform the world of his actions at (roughly) the speed of light. He speaks, light travels at 186,000 miles per second, some of the world is wired for fiber optic communications, give a second or three for analog that gets in the way, what he says and DOES is public knowledge let’s say, 5 seconds after he does it. Assuming he makes his actions public.

What’s "timely "? And why was it left to the ranch owner to notify her local newspaper the next day ? And-and- the shot he took was illegal under Texas law? He gets to send a check in AFTER he blasts a 78 year old man in the face ? ( yes, check the cite. The man was shot partially in the face.)

So, any American can just take a shot that is illegal, then send in payment afterwards to pay for a permit or license or stamp of what-have-you? Gosh. That’s excellent news. Because, see, he has now set precedent by firing his weapon illegally and paying the cost for the shot later on. Thanks, Cheney !

-Snerk- Are you kidding? I’m waiting for him to hold a press conference and say proudly that he discovered flocks of quail of mass destruction, therefore justifying any use of deadly force.

Well you know that quail had the bird flu. He was just keeping us safe and lawyer guy was an acceptable casualty. It’s the price we pay for freedom.
