Chesley Sullenberger ("Miracle on the Hudson" pilot), 75, has Alzheimer's

This stinks. Nobody deserves that.

It can happen to anyone, even our finest folks and true heros. Damn.

Perfectly said.

Smart or stupid, craven or stalwart, it comes for anyone. Perhaps thee; perhaps me.

Dayum that sucks.

I was saddened to hear this news.

But I do appreciate that public figures like Capt. Sullenberger and Danny Glover have the bravery to publicly announce their illness, therefore keeping it in the public’s attention and reminding us that it can happen to anybody.

From the article:

The 75-year-old said that by sharing his story, he hopes that other families dealing with the disease don’t have to hide from it but that they too could take a step forward.

“Over the years, when people would ask about the successful outcome of Flight 1549, I would say that ‘courage can be contagious,’ and on that day it helped everyone band together to get everyone off that airplane successfully,“ Sullenberger shared. ”Now we need that courage to battle this disease. I am now part of a larger community with many of you, and we will be courageous together.”

If only all prominent public figures with incipient dementia would have the courage to admit it and not live in denial.

And run their whole lives on the basis of selfless integrity.

Like the song says: What a wonderful world it would be.

No one is perfect, but some can show us how to be better.

Captain Sully is one of the latter.

I didn’t know about Danny Glover.

Should have been Mel.
