i know that this may bore the heck out of most folks. but what the hey.
and big kudos to chessic and mal in advance.

ok i had thought d4 but figure against someone like mal that e4 makes more sense.
oh, that’s right thought process.
need to take control over those four middle squares.
ok, so i’ll post what i am thinking and then just move and you can tell me where the gears slipped.
i’d like to go d4 and have a pawn exchange while getting the queen out and about.
but i don’t think that is prudent so nf3. attacks the pawn and also clears up some clutter on the king side.
ok, i really want to move the bishop to b6. that way i can get rid of the durn knight plus it allows me to castle. and it gets that piece out of the way.
the durn knights always seem to get forking at some point and i don’t see those as well as the more linear pieces (rooks predominantly). the fracking diagonals faux me up as well. so if i can get into trades with knights and bishops it seems to help simplify the game for me.
and i doubt any other feedback but this is a great opportunity for other “beginners” to kind of chime in and see how the big boys approach this endeavor.
ok, screw it bishop to c4. if he falls asleep i can move the knight to g5 and then the next move i fork his queen and rook.
oh shoot that doesn’t work unless i move the d pawn. oh well, just one extra move until he falls into my hands. mwahh hah hah.
How about a link to the game?
does that get you there?
ok here is what i am thinking why not go ng5?
i can still fork his queen and rook and the bishop protects the durn knight.
i mean he has to move his queen, right?
suggestions from the peanut gallery are welcomed and encouraged.
and if he does i still make the same move and make him move his rook and eliminate the chance of casteling on the king side. and i still get a pawn.
what am i missing?
i won’t move until chessic tells me how convoluted my reasongin is.
or glee could chime in at any time as well.
I love love LOVE NG5. It has produced some of my most beloved knight sacrifice games back in high school.
(tags in case you don’t wanna read it)
Black responds 4…d5. Keeps your knight separated from its protection. PxP, then **ideally,**black responds with Na5, taking the pressure off the horsey and putting it back on your Bishop. I say ideally, because all too often black gets greedy and goes NxP, seemingly “recovering” the loss of a pawn.
This is followed by Nxf7, KxN, Qf3+, at which point the King must either retreat, allowing white to take the sacked knight back and have a huge positional lead, or …Ke6, put the king in a very dangerous spot on the middle of the board. I believe Morphy played this opening a few times, although I personally learned it from Yasser Seirawan’s book on chess openings. Can’t express in words how much chess fun it’s provided me over the years!
well thanks to antonio i didn’t go down that path.
i went ahead and castled because it seemed prudent (that and i had no clue on what else to do).
now i think i will go pawn to d3. that threatens his knight and depending on where he moves i can get my other knight out and get back to threatening those durn center squares. because even if he were to move the threatened knight to d6 i’ve also protected my bishop by this move.
I can’t access that game until I get home. Can you either post the moves list or just wait til I get home for comments?
Already, though, it sounds like you’re moving without a plan. You need a plan. From now on, on each move, I want you to record your thoughts about the following ideas.
Chessic Sense’s Recipe for Strategy
Initiative - Who is dictating, and who is responding?
Material - Who has more material on the board?
Pawns - What does the pawn structure look like? Where are the pawn majorities? Where are the weak pawns? Backward pawns? Passed pawns? Isolated Pawns?
Lines and squares - What lines are open? Where are the open or semi-open files? Diagonals? Where are there weak squares? Where are the outposts?
Officers, aka pieces - Where are the bishops and knights? Is it even or lopsides (e.g. knight vs. bishop)?
Development - How well are the pieces being used? Do they all have jobs? Which ones do, and which do not?
Safety - How safe are the kings? Is that even an issue at this point in the game or in the near future?
peekercpa, for every move (yes, EVERY move), I want you to put something down for these categories, even if all you put is “no change”. Be sure to tell us which side you think has the edge. Use the following symbology:
Finally, in one paragraph, tell us what that says about your plan. These factors will dictate to you (and sometimes make it as clear as day) how you should move.
BTW, I should point out that the CS Recipe for Strategy is an acronym:
I M P L O De S.
ok.
because my general plan is just to get the stuff off of the back row and go gang rushing towards the end zone. i understand that this is not prudent.
but right now i would say black has an edge because he is up a pawn and has both of his knights foraging around. and i should have probably forked his knights with the bishop. that way i get a trade however it also also him to open up his bishop without really doing any work.
it’s probably what he wants to do anyways so why just make his life easier.
Oh, you’re black! I thought you were playing white, my bad!
Wait, I’m confused. Why didn’t you like Ng6?
