Chicago area entry-level Autocad opening (still open!)

DRAFTER NEEDED

Requirements:
· Autocad training
· Blueprint reading
· A flexible mind

Would be nice:
· Architectural drafting
· Electrical drafting
· Visio experience
· Autolisp programming

We are the premier manufacturer and installer of top-end integrated home and business automation, theater, and security systems. We are growing and need an entry-level drafter to grow with us. We are an equal-opportunity employer and believe in promoting from within the company. If you like to travel (to places like Aspen and the NICE parts of Florida) you could be a project manager in six months, like the LAST person I hired!

The job involves both laying out our product on architectural floorplans and electrical layout drawings.

We are located in one of Chicago’s far-west suburbs, just off the tollways (East-West & North-South).

(And I was able to pry out of management what they are willing to pay, which was considerably MORE than I was assuming. A living wage, especially for an entry-level job. It’s a terrific opportunity and wouldn’t still be open except I haven’t been looking too hard and the guy who placed first dibs on it found an even better opportunity.)

C’mooooooooooooon, drop! You KNOW I can’t do Autocad! When are you going to come up with a job that I can do? I’m getting HUNGRY over here!

You did marketing for BMG, IIRC? How are your press releases? Got a resume and some samples?

Email me and I’ll link you to our web site.

Okay, how much is the pay?

I can’t say that and you know it! Leave it at “considerably more than my wife makes.”

With annual bonuses, I make between 65 and 70K. Is this new position going to be worth my time to try for?

[sub]I thought this might be easier to answer for you, being yes or no.[/sub]

O

Sure does! NO!!! May I remind you the position is ENTRY LEVEL?!?!?

And do you have any openings there?

Yes, actually we do. What IT skills, degrees or certifications should I keep in mind as I scan our internal job list?

O

Hey, that would be perfect for me! I’m an Autocad drafter with an industrial refrigeration outfit, with all the skills you listed. Unfortunately, I have commitments here on the west coast that I can’t leave(6 year old son).
Would your company be willing to relocate to Portland, OR?

I swear, this is the LAST TIME I give friends first crack at a job.

Interested in hiring a student on internship or something like that while said student attends college someplace in the area?

If so, I hope it’s still open in about 8 months.

Yes, and there might be another opening by then. We expect to grow quite a bit in the next year. Shoot me a resume.

Resume…uhh…yeah.

I meant that in 8 months, I will no longer be in highschool. Then I could go to the University of Chicago or somesuch, and work at your place.

I mean, I could write you a resume, but I don’t think it’ll be all that helpful to you.

High school student.
All the stuff I’ve been in (not much relating to computers).
All my part-time piddly summer jobs (nothing relating to computers).

That’d be about it.

I’m taking AutoCad this year, 's the only experience I’d have in that area. I do enjoy it, however. I’ll see what happens.

Keep us in mind.

And you’ll let me know when you open your Michigan branch office and will farm out contract work, because that’s when we’ll get Mr Cranky signed up (I know I said he is an architect, but he doesn’t practice–he works from bluprints to do Autocad drawings and 3DS Max animations of other architect’s work. Perfect eh?)

So let us know.

** PHP??? **

Cranky, nobody in Michigan can afford us. When the insanely rich start moving TO Jackson or Flint, instead of denying they ever heard of them, then maybe we’ll talk.

Okay, kids. Last bump before I move it to HotJobs.

I used to draw electrical diagrams for C-130 aircraft at Lockheed, using CADAM. I’m sure I could pick up AutoCAD quickly. But I want to live in Washington state, not Chicago.

Add me to the list of qualified people that are on the other side of the country (NE Texas, FWIW) and can’t move to Chicago. :frowning:

And as I said in my phone conversation with you last week, I just got a fabulous new job with a 17K raise, lots of benefits, trips to germany, all sorts of other fun stuff…sorry!

Plus I don’t have to travel to Bumble!@#$ Western suburbs
