As some of you know, I’m soon leaving my icky apartment, complete with Musa the Psycho Montenegrin Landlord, for happier digs. I’m only moving about half a mile, from one first-floor apartment to another one, so it should be pretty straightforward. This will be the first time I’ve hired professional movers; I haven’t moved in seven years, and normally I rely on the generous assistance of my friends, but a) a critical mass of them will be out of town during the period I was hoping to make the move, and b) by the time I rent a truck, etc., and torture my friends, it really ceases to be worth the trouble.
So far I’ve gotten recommendations for Golan Movers and In & Out Movers (yeah, I know, but I didn’t make up the name), both of which are rumored to be staffed by hunky Israeli guys, which is a definite plus in my book. Both are offering similar deals ($90-100/hour and $45 one-time travel fee, 2-hour minimum and prorated every 15 min. thereafter, for three guys and a truck, plus furniture pads, etc.)
Does anyone have any other recommendations? I don’t particularly care how large and fancy-looking the company is; I just want them to be fast, honest, and careful with my stuff. Also, any tips on the etiquette of using professional movers will be welcome.
