I just wanted to send out a little love to Chicago. I was there this past weekend, and it never ceases to amaze me what a beautiful and exciting city Chicago is.
You have beautiful architecture, great restaurants, awesome bars, and a general “pulse” that is totally lacking in my boring city.
If any of you ever get a chance to go to Bin 36 I highly recommend it. And also let me throw out a recommendation for The Violet Hour. Bring your credit card – you’re going to need it  .
Can’t take any credit for it of course, but thanks all the same. You definitely came the right time of year… there’s little nicer than Chicago in the summertime, but I doubt you’d be singing these kinds of praises in February. The Hawk is one mean sonofabitch!
HeyHomie, where you from? Here’s betting that there are a hundred things that you’re inured to as a native that your average visiting Chicagoan would find fascinating.
Unless you’re from Wisconsin, in which case, well, we already know what our backyard looks like.
Oh. I must have missed that … in your location tag… yeah… :smack:
I’ve only been to Springfield once, and that was years ago in high school. We met then-governor Edgar and toured the capitol. I can’t remember having much of an impression of it but … do you still enjoy the state fair?
Having lived in Chicago, I can agree it is probably one of the best cities in the entire USA and woefully underrated - especially when foreign tourists come the states - I rarely meet a foreigner who has been to Chicago, and of all my friends in Germany, only ONE had gone there and he simply loved the city!
However, the weather simply sucks.
Sure - Fall and Spring are wonderful, but the humidity in the Summer is unbearable, and the Winters? Like living in Siberia. Unbelievable cold, and that damned wind…I shiver just thinking about it!
Otherwise, can’t think of a single negative thing to say about Chicago - great food, theater, nightlife, people, the lake, the museums…all good!
I’m a transplant from Wisconsin, and I love Chicago. It makes going home from vacations a happy thought rather than disappointing.
DMark, you’d have loved this summer - we didn’t even hit 90 in July, and only a small amount of time was humid. I think the weather is worth dealing with, though, to get to be in or near this city.
