No doubt tourism dollars will massively plunge.
Still, no actual tourists in danger news though.

I draw the line at killing people. I am firmly on the side of ‘not’.
Sad, yes.
Truth, no.

Put the quote tags on their own separate line. I fixed it for you.
Thank you. Tags work different since we moved. I’ll start putting them on their own line.
The looters seem to be getting more crassly opportunistic, which both makes the problem worse and makes voters less sympathetic.
I would sure like to see Biden and Harris make strongly worded denunciations of the looting, as I’ve said before. But I’m starting to think it might be even more important for the DNC itself to exert pressure, because these mayors on their own do not have enough incentive to do anything, due to the fear of pushback from super vocal left-wing agitators of color. This is even more true for the straight white male mayors in places like Minneapolis and Portland, who feel constant pressure toward performative wokeness–whereas Lightfoot has been able to be stronger but needs to do more to really put a lid on it.
Some might look at the polls and say I’m worrying needlessly. I believe that watching the horizon for threats to nip in the bud is extremely important in politics, especially when you are ahead. (When you’re behind, you have more pressing concerns.) Republicans have been sinking in quicksand this year. Democrats need to be constantly scanning the area around the quicksand pit for any nearby branches or hanging vines that may come even remotely close to those sinking Republicans. When Democrats spot any such potential lifelines, they need to “helpfully” pull them well back out of reach, long before they come within range of the flailing GOP.
And over the slightly longer time horizon, when we won’t have a complete dumpster fire like Trump digging his own grave for the GOP, we don’t need Democrats to get branded the way they did in the ’70s. Nor can we dismiss that as a different time when whites were a much larger proportion of the population. The circle of whiteness continually expands throughout American history. I think Trump’s surprising strength with Hispanics is likely another iteration of this phenomenon, and it could extend further with a GOP that goes back to leaders who are a little subtler, using dogwhistles instead of “saying the quiet part out loud” as Trump so often does.
I suspect the most common media subject in 2021 will be about the evils of white flight. Probably interspersed with dismay over record gun sales.
