I don’t know that I would call them magnanimous, I would call them earnest. They truly believe it’s a sin, but a good many of them—I don’t know what percentage, but I’ve met a few—believe truly in “hate the sin but love the sinner” and don’t condemn people for what they’ve done, they just condemn the act.
Yeah, I used to be a Bible thumper too, before college. That’s how I know that not all of them think the way you think they do.
I repeat, but I’m not sure you’re getting this, you do not know the people I know. Is this really so hard for you to understand? Seriously??
Okay. Everyone you know is a homophobe. All several hundred of them. Yeeeaaaahhhhh you win!
I used to be a Bible thumper too, then I took a Bible to the knee.
For the obviously remedial among us, no. Just the bigots. Perhaps that’s clearer than my already clear post? Are do I need to type slower?
I was gonna read this thread, but got about 10 posts in reading about bomb threats and Rosa Parks and
I ate at Chick Fil A and will continue to do so.
I don’t. By definition; by being so hateful, so purely malignant they automatically are neither nice nor good.
Well, big deal. That just means they’ll pat themselves on the back harder over their supposed moral superiority while they go about their business of spreading hatred and suffering.
I don’t think these people are hateful any more than I thought the early church was hateful for its treatment of women. I think people are ignorant, especially if they grew up in a closeted world.
There are some pretty amazing and kind people in this world who, because of their religious beliefs, don’t support same-sex marriage. There are also some pretty shitty people who use religion to spread hate. It’s not the same thing.
I know you hate religion and bla bla bla but the world isn’t so black and white. If you start doing that, then it becomes All Germans are bad because they let the Holocaust happen or All slave owners were bad people and so forth and so on.
Sadly, the world is weak when it comes to sticking up for what is right.
I don’t understand why people are making this just about SSM. Chick-fil-A donates money to Family Research Council, who officially states that gay sex should be criminalized in the United States and also does “missionary” work abroad to promote the criminalization of same-sex relations. To me, that’s a bit different than saying “they should have something just like it but not call it marriage.” It’s openly hateful.
I do think they were hateful (and generally, so are their present day heirs).
That reminds me of the claims that some members of the Inquisition cried as they tortured people “for their own good.” It did their victims no good.
Yes, it is the same thing. Relabeling hatred as religion makes it no less hatred.
All slave owners were bad. “Bad” as in monsters, enemies of humanity. Germans are not. Slave owners are a class defined by doing a very evil thing; Germans are defined by being native to a geographic region. It isn’t the same at all.
It’s amazing the character whitewashing you can do once you ignore someone’s faults. I understand Hitler was great fun at parties as long as you didn’t mention the Jew thing. Being anti-gay is a mean, nasty thing to be and being an otherwise ‘kind’ person doesn’t excuse that.
Okay, well, I believe that Germans have a great deal to think about in regards to how responsible they were for the Holocaust (also Polish and others but anyway) and I’ll remember this conversation next time I quote Thomas Jefferson.
Also…if I hadn’t made it clear - I wasn’t talking about the “Let’s go support Chick Fil A!” types (I deleted them from FB), but was trying to address how it appeared (to me) that some of the posters in this thread may be feeling. Like Sir T-Cups, for example. He’s actually not an evil asshole.
I’m not a fan of the “Founding Fathers”, if that’s what you’re getting at.
Just wasn’t aware you thought of Thomas Jefferson and Mother Theresa as monsters.
Yes, both were monsters.
Little Klaus is a two year old German, and he has a great deal to think about his responsibility for the holocaust? WTF does that have to do with Joe Christian going to CFA to spite SSM proponents or whatever his misguided reasoning was?
Mother Theresa [i[was* a dick. Despite being the head of an extremely well-funded organization, she did little if anything to actually alleviate human suffering. The sick and dying in Calcutta were basically her props for photo ops.
Dude. Read.
