I like Chick-fil-A for tenders, but their sandwich is completely underwhelming. Popeyes* sandwich is awesome, and Wendy’s isn’t too far behind.
- did you know they are named for the character in “The French Connection,” not the cartoon sailor man?

I wouls say #1 is Popeyes, #2 Mc Spicy (from Hong Kong, they don’t have it here), #3Chick fil-a
Was reading an old thread of mine and wanted to give ISiddiqui some props when he said, in regards to what the best fast food item in history is:
“… Though if Popeye’s ever makes a spicy chicken sandwich, all bets are off.”
When you really, really, really have Chik-Fil-A cravings.
Came here to post about this one. If you love junk food/carnival fare this is the sandwich for you. I had one earlier this week. It was so damned good. Unlike the frozen tasting waffles they came out with last go-round, the donuts were warm and tasted so fresh. They were wet with glaze. The chicken strip was also fresh and thick. I love KFC tenders. They’re almost the size of a full breast, very meaty. This sandwich was almost too big to take a full bite, but I gave it my best effort. The sweet/salty/crunchy/mushy/chewy effect was strong. The only negative was drippiness, but it comes with a wrapper inside a box so that’s easily remedied.
I loved it so much I had to go back yesterday for another. To me it’s dangerously good.
I adore the CFA sandwich and would choose it more often, but they’d rather have two franchises side-by-side across town than have one within 5-10 minutes of driving  So I mostly eat the Popeyes chicken sandwich when I’m craving chicken.
I think I’m having an orgasm.
Just wanted to point out that Popeyes now has a FISH sandwich that is also pretty darn tasty. I don’t know if it is a special just for Lent, or if it is a new regular, but I recommend you check it out if you like such things.
Nearest Popeyes and homophobic CFA are 90 minutes away. KFC-TacoSmell (meh) and Burger Thing (with crispy spicy chicken burgers, two for six bucks) are only 30 minutes downhill. But I’ll skip corporate food fights. Give peas a chance.
Other non-combatants: burrito trucks offering great pollo asado tacos for half the price. Nearest is 15 minutes away, with covered seating so we can watch a dozen cars roll by each minute. A few hay haulers and lumber trucks, too. But no chicken carriers.
Lemmesee…drive 50+ miles to the nearest one of those fast-food outlets, or amble slowly to my kitchen and make my own chicken sammich from scratch. I tend to favor the latter.
And it tastes great.
At 1100 calories, “dangerously good” is probably accurate! Knowing my own lack of self control, I’d best steer clear of that.
Thanks for the warning Rushgeekgirl. I’ll be sure to protect myself from myself on that one
I did have a small burger on a donut once. It was AWESOME. I love savory and sweet together.
There’s a KFC right around the corner…
Like WalMart in Zacatecas, KFC-TacoSmell is the high-priced store in my nearest city. A few of Colonel’s zillion-piece buckets are OK if we expect 1) to be stuck in a blizzard for a week and 2) we can get home before the blizzard strikes.
Back in the day (pre-1950) when San Francisco was a gritty workingman’s town, budget eateries served Chicken Of The Sea aka seagulls. Where have seagull sandwiches gone?
Interesting. I like reading about American food history. Do you have any more information/references about this I could look into? How were they served? Boiled? Fried? Roasted?
I can only suggest searching on the keywords. My source was MrsRico’s grandmother, a union typographer in S.F. for many decades. She shuddered when mentioning that dish.
