ChiDope Saturday Jan. 13! Who's in?

With all due respect to mischievous, it looks like Wrigleyville it is.

Note that there is street parking on all the streets nearby, but you do need to feed the meters and put a parking pass on your dashboard. At least it isn’t too expensive.

See you all there!

I’m in for Dags as well. I’m in walking distance.

As far as the paranoia above, I’ve helped plan a couple of Chicago Dopefests and we’ve never had an issue as far as paying goes, I arrived here in 2012.

I’ve got no problem with that!

See you there, 1pm next Saturday.

This was a real thing - multiple Dopers shorted the person who hosted the meet. That’s not paranoia.

We believe you. Are you suggesting we cancel this whole thing? If so, we won’t. If not, what’s your point?

Please clarify this. Feed the meter- got it. AND a parking pass?

The parking meters give out slips of paper you must leave visible on your dashboard. I’m not sure how much or how long the maximum goes for, in case this get together runs long.

This may not be useful for all people, but if you download the ParkChicago app, you can pay with your phone and extend the parking time via the app (from the warm comfort of the restaurant).

Seriously. I just went back and checked, and the referenced ChiDope was nearly fifteen years ago (the 2009 thread references an event that actually took place several years prior). I will keep this brief so as not to hijack further, but I think 15 years is an awfully long time to obsess about an improperly split check. And I seem to recall at least one subsequent offer to pay back any missing funds on the part of someone who I cannot dream would ever intentionally stiff someone on a restaurant bill.

Presumably everyone here is an adult and can make their own decisions about what level of risk they are comfortable with.

Reservation under Cecil Adams?

Thanks!

You’re welcome. One more thing about the meters for those unfamiliar with them. There isn’t a meter at each parking spot like in the old days. There are black meter machines each about a block apart. You can use the paper slips for any parking space, no matter where.

I think the maximum parking time is two hours, but you can always run out and buy more time. They take quarters, dollar coins, and credit cards. And it’s like two bucks an hour or so (varies by neighborhood).

I’ve got prior plans for sat aft, so I can’t stay long, but Tripler’s stories in the thread about chacoguy has reminded me that this board has the potential for some mighty fine IRL friends and acquaintances, so Ill be there!

I’ll be trying to get over for a bit too.

Okay! It’s time for last-minute planning! We’re meeting at 1pm tomorrow at D’Agostino’s in Wrigleyville. I’ve never been there, and I’ve never organized a minidopfest - should we reserve a table for Cecil Adams? Plant a visible hat on the table? How do we find each other?

Last time we met at the bar (they have tables in the bar area). It never got big enough to get a formal table in the dining area, but we easily could have. It doesn’t get that crowded on a Saturday afternoon.

I’ll try to grab a Reader to plant visibly on the table. Or look for my Charlie Brown hat.

I’m here with Tim. We’re sitting at the bar right inside the entrance.
Free parking on Addison west of Dags.

Anyone there yet? I"m heading out in a couple of minutes, and it is about a ten minute or so walk for me.

Correction: main dining room, corner window seats.
