What is with graduating parties in August? Is this a new Midwest tradition of which I know nothing? Admit it–you’ve got Cubs/Sox tickets and don’t want to miss the game…
Ex-wife with new family. Conflicting dates for graduation parties. Endless re-scheduling. Blah, blah, blah… Just tryin’ to keep peace in what’s left of the family. She’s a Straight Dope fan, but blowing off the graduation party (as much as I’d like to…) would probably be Very Bad Form…
Last year we had the bus kid’s graduation party this time of year. Two reasons: to avoid the rush of June parties and inevitbale conflicts; and to double as a going away party.
The downside? Try and find a good graduation card in late July… :smack:

Weather is forecast to be hot - probably upper 80’s. It’s fairly close to the lake so I would anticipate some cooling from that. Rain not expected.
The restaurant is usually kept at a sane temperature, but if you chill easily either wear pants or bring a sweater. I imagine if we get a big group we’ll generate some bodyheat. From this crowd, I expect some hot air as well.
I’m the ghost-pale woman with some faint color on hands and arms. Very long hair, will probably be in three waist-length braids, light brown with some reddish color.
Beaubien. I actually stopped to read the street sign this morning on my way into work (I work in the big black buildings across the street from Prudential).
As for finding each other - my train will get me there outrageously early, I should be able to show up around 3:15 or 3:30. Since I am half crazy anyway and have little shame, if I can find it perhaps I will wear my purple hat with the yellow horns, which should serve as a beacon to all comers. If I can find it. I’ll let ya’ll know.
If not, perhaps I can come up with something else suitably obnox-- >cough< distinctive. Or someone else can.
Regretably, I must depart shortly before 6 to catch my train back to Indiana – have plans for early morning on Sunday. Weather permitting, nothing breaks, and so forth.

I’ll either be in the plaza just outside the restaurant or, if too hot or weather otherwise inclement (which I strongly doubt) inside in the waiting area.
Nope, sorry, but I was in town last weekend when the ChiDope wasn’t; had a lovely bit of a MiniChiDope, but I will not be attending this’n. Still eighteen’s a nice number, not one of those scary prime ones. So enjoy your Chicago-style pizza (though I bet you just call it pizza) and some Blue Moon! Be sure to post lots of pics afterward as well.
Oh, and I learned the hard way last weekend that even if it’s just a bottle of water, whatever you buy at the bar you gotta finish at the bar. In MI, they just don’t give you any bottle w/ a cap on it.

Daughter and youngest son may be with me as well, since Husband has to work his booth at the town fair that his place of employment is in (what a sentence!).
Look for a harassed-looking soccer mom. Will check train schedules on Friday, as I am too lazy to get up and do it now.
One time some kind person preprinted nametags except the font was more creative than legible in bar lighting so I was forced to practically stick my nose in strange women’s breasts to see who they were. Not that I’m complaining. 
I’ll bring non-disasterous nametags and I will try to be there by 3:30. Remember to ask for the Cecil Adams party.

Portia: I am just back from my very first ChiDopeFest.
It was fun–I had to leave early, but I met dropzone, lurkmeister, jnglemassiv, broomstick and attybratty (not sure of spelling there, atty). We had good convo and pizza.
I heartily reccomend doing this again.
