Unless, of course, Superdude is still going to pick me up, now that he has lodgings. 
You know, I’m so stoked about knowing for sure that I’ll be there that I’m actually taking the train in Thursday night. I think I’ll take the overnight to Chicago. It’ll make it seem like more of an adventure. And I’ll be hitting Chicago at like 9:30am Friday, so I might even be able to meet up with folks at the airport. Anyone that wants a Superdude welcoming party, let me know.

OK, so Chateau Jarbaby is chockful of dopers, and I’ll be taking a half day on Friday if I can.
Some of you might already know that on May 4th I’m walking in the Bark In The Park 8 to raise money for the chicago anti-cruelty society…if you want to sponsor me, bring five or ten dollars or a check to any portion of dopefest.

The new thread with all the details in the OP is on it’s way, kids, but might not be posted for a couple more days. I’ve been migrainey the last few days, and my herniated disk has decided to act up today, so I haven’t been able to put it together just yet. I should be able to by Saturday or so. I’m also keeping a spreadsheet of attendeed (maybe’s and definite’s) and right now we’re sitting at 60 count 'em 60 dopers. We’re gonna overflow the party room we have reserved for Saturday.
My trip to NYC was financed by a very, very special person, named manhattan. It was the most wonderful trip I’ve ever taken, ever in my life, and I will be in his debt forever.
There’s something I’d like to do to kinda keep the good karma moving, though.
I can’t do much, but I do have a hotel room. If you ca get yourself to Chicago and need a place to stay, you can stay in my room, and I won’t ask you to share the cost. I’ve already talked to Jane, and she said it was okay.
If you want to crash there, just drop either me or Superdude an email. Why Superdude? Because he’s staying in the room too. He’ll probably be the first one there, so I’ve made him my lieutenant.
I will be driving from Madison, WI somtime Friday (4/5) after 3 PM. Returning north Sunday (4/5) so I can be back home by 9 PM (I start work at 0630 Mon). Brand new car with (Mazda Protege 5:)).
Within these parameters:
- Anybody need a ride? Anybody from Madison, Janesville, Rockford or on the route in where I can swing by and get you?
- Sophie, I can pick you up at the airport Friday evening if you haven’t made other arrangements.
- Ino, will you just be travelling through Madison at the time (Friday eve), or are you interested in ride sharing?
- I have three empty seats in the car to haul people around to our gala festivities.
ANYBODY know how far a drive from Jane’s deal-hotel to airport? Sophie, if it’s fifteen minutes or less, you can call me when you step off the plane, and I can get there before you pick up your checked baggage. Or we’ll figure something else out if necessary.
Personally, I’m a little leery of sharing hotel rooms with Real World strangers. It’s my first Fest, and I have suffered numerous violent assaults in my life.
But in my car… I’m not worried. I have an airbag, and plently concrete bridge abutments to choose from if anybody tries to get Midevil on me!

It’s very close, and there’s a shuttle to the hotel from the airport terminals, IIRC. Probably easier to do that than to get a ride…

A group of people are getting together to go to the Art Institute of Chicago on Saturday morning. All ChiDope attendees are invited, so join us if you want to get a little more out of the city than a hangover and a new tattoo.
The Institute is easily accessible by bus and CTA train. You can plug in your starting point and find the best public transportation route here.
The schedule will be this:
11:30 a.m. - Meet in front of Art Institute, Michigan Avenue side. I’ll be there, near the Lion on the north end of the stairs.
11:45 a.m. - Go inside.
2:00 p.m. - Meet back outside near the Lion. This way if you arrive at the museum late and miss us you can still meet up with everyone. This also ensures that we don’t have to walk through the museum in a giant herd for fear of separation. People who want to go Navy Pier or the Sears Tower or walk around downtown or come hang out in my neighborhood with me or grab some lunch can meet up and do so.
I checked doubletree.com to see which hotel was the one near O’Hare so I could get ensure my passengers got there okay.
Which one? There’s one 2.2 miles from the airport and one 2.3 miles.
