Child beaten for 90 minutes for acting up in Bible Class

No, I’m not bashing Christians. But stories like this, regardless of the religion, make me sick. And to claim to do it in the name of God…and to urge the parents after you drop off the child to beat him for another two hours???

This is just sick.

No one should kill, maim, or hurt anyone in any way in the name of religion. No god (or goddess) that I know of would condone such action.

E.

Whoever wrote that headline should be beaten:

[Monty Python]Vicar-Sergeant?
Detective-Parson, mum.

Sick… Yes, that’s one of the emotions I feel over this. Unfortuantely, I really don’t have the words to describe the depth of my revulsion.

OTOH, I know that at least a few other people out there feel as I do, ivylass. Thanks.

So much for peace and love.

Don Henley said it best: "Evil is still evil in ANYBODY’S name.

Really not too surprising. I would bet more people have been harmed in the name of God (or Allah or Yahweh or whatever) than for just about all other reasons combined.

Extremism or fanaticism of any type have never lead to anything positive.

Hmm, my sister just the other day had commented to me about a book she had seen displayed at a local Mennonite-run market that apparently discussed the biblical basis for corporal punishment. The preface mentioned the need to instill “the right kind of fear” in children.

Great bacon and smoked sausage they sell; too bad I won’t be patronizing the place any more…

Why, that’s too kind, sir.

I mean, it’s not like they’re barbarians or something. No wetting 'em during the flogging, no sirree!

Not being a legal expert, I’m assuming these guys are gonne be on the inside for a long, long time. Right?

That’s the general assumption, Coldie. And that they’ll be mighty unpopular while there, though not perhaps as unpopular as pederasts are.

Which is about right, in my book.

If that was my kid, those two would have met jesus that very day. Words can’t convey my disgust for what was done to that child.

Sounds like advocates of www.nogreaterjoy.org

shudder

And to make matters worse our tax dollars are going to subsidize these smirking monsters

I do believe that I would have killed at least one of those despicable pieces of shit had this happened to my son. If I found them together, then they both would go. In Texas, in my younger days, my defense would have been, “They needed killin’” and that would probably have been good enough.

Just a precursor before my atheistic bretheren begin insinuating their way into this thread:
The perpretrarors were Christian fucknuts. The reason for the beating was the fucknut-ism, not the Christianity.

Nice. Real nice.

Give me a religion that believes that children are perfect little spirits that we have to teach to stay naturally good by working hard not to corrupt them with our own awful flaws, instead of little demons that have to be beaten into obedience and fear.

from the statesman.com ( ‘smirking monsters’ ) link above:

Isn’t the ‘spare the rod’ thing one of the mist mis-used (misunderstood?) things in Christianity? I know that the ‘rod’ refers to the shepherd’s rod - but shepherds don’t BEAT the sheep with it, they use it to GUIDE the sheep where they need to go.

No, lawoot, the most misused phrase in Christianity is, “Women, obey your husbands.” But that’s another story.
And I agree that these two have completely perverted the Bible in what they did. I hope there is such a thing as true justice in Texas.

“Did you flog the prisoner?”

“Yes, sir!”

“How much did you get?”

It bothered me the way the articles about this seemed to liken a spanking to a beating. We spank our kids in this house. Three pops on the diaper is NOTHING like beating a child with a tree branch for an hour and a half. It’s not even CLOSE. Anyone who preaches that this kind of discipline is even remotely acceptable needs to be disciplined by a couple of big, hairy, lonely inmates, along with anyone who listens and believes.
