China Beach finally being released

The good news is the TV series China Beach is finally getting its release for home viewing. (The only previous release has been a VHS of the pilot movie.) All four seasons are being released in a single box-set with some bonus material. And apparently they got clearance for all the original music.

The bad news is the high price. Time-Life is doing the release and they’re often over-priced. The price on the box set is $199.95. Okay, it’s a 21-disc set but that’s still high.

The website claims the set is being sold on Amazon but Amazon doesn’t list it.

It’s a disgrace that a show this good had to wait 25 years to be released.

Wow. Thanks for the update. I’ve been waiting on this, as a birthday present for my Dad. Hopefully the price will drop after awhile.

Thanks Little Nemo.

About time!

I used to like the show because I had the hots for Delaney. Made it easy to forgive how they portrayed the place. The China Beach I knew was an in-country R&R spot, complete with white sand beaches and round-eyes (American women). In the year I was in Vietnam, China Beach never took an incoming round.

Oh, I loved this show. And it needed to have the original music to be worth it.

I have a version that someone appears to have created from a re-run on History Channel (?) but it’s not great quality.

Putting it on my wish list!

I might have to buy that, as I was an extra in the pilot.

I’m hoping Amazon picks it up once it’s officially released and discounts it.
