There are large areas where independent travelers are refused entry. And many journalists have been expelled.
But China is still far more free, in most places, than it was under Mao.
The problem with the thread question is that everything depends on unknowable details concerning the nature of Chinese rule. Is it a pure one party state, as is the case now, or has it perhaps evolved more into a dominant party state, like Singapore?
I’m too old to fight physically. But even if I was not, my nature would be to find a spot where I can safely push for gradual reform. Assuming there is one.
One kind of resistance I honor the most is hiding non-violent people in danger of being sent to reeducation camps.

The gist of the OP is make a decision without enough facts to make a decision. Then the OP can imply anybody who doesn’t blindly throw themselves into the grist mill is an unpatriotic coward.
Or one could make a logical argument for not joining the armed resistance.

I don’t know exactly, but health care, like much else, would be arranged in a way to foster divisions among the conquered people, so they would be less likely to rise as one against the occupiers.
One possibility is an anti-natalist policy designed to keep down the number of potentially restive young Americans. So – free abortions, but big co-pays for lousy obstetrical care. For the same reason – fewer births – they would probably try to co-opt LGBTQ+.
The government of China doesn’t rule the same way in every province, and would vary policies by region here as well. In progressive parts of the U.S. they would paint people fighting back as anti-Chinese racists who want to control women’s bodies.
In Kansas, I’m not sure what the Chinese line would be. But it would be different.
It is possible for rebels to agree on the need to overthrow the existing government without agreeing on much else. But a lot of Americans who today think they would join with the rebels would change their minds once they saw who the rebels were.
