If China sends a large number of colonists to North America, as I expect they would, their all packing up and leaving would be an unrealistic goal…
After Taiwan was overrun by murderous Chinese in the late 1940’s, the invaders never left. But the Chinese were eventually neutralized by intermarriage with Taiwanese.
Expect that by the time this scenario comes into play Australia will have run out of iron ore to sell to PRC and will be what Singapore’s Lee Kuan Yew - Wikipedia once described as the poor white trash of SE Asia. So the fight will have long been lost from this dog.
But I’ve seen those Youtube videos of US patriots launching an armed insurrection against an oppressive government fairly recently.

Well I guess that nobody is going to win a war of resistance if the only weapon in your arsenal is irony so it’s no importance if you don’t have it.
OK, so you’ve established that the Chinese space lasers only work against military targets. That frees up the U.S. civilian populace. Important point.
340 million Americans, many of whom own guns, is not a trivial insurgency to put down. We’re talking something two orders of magnitude greater than what the U.S. itself faced in post-2003 Iraq. Furthermore, China would presumably have its hands dealing with many other things as well - it probably wouldn’t just be America, it would have gone to war with a lot of other nations too, right?
How many troops can China possibly station in America to suppress an insurgency? Even if 1 million (which is already around half the size of the entire PLA at the moment,) that’s tiny compared to the many millions of Americans. It will be very difficult for China to quell things.
In my scenario, the US government has unconditionally surrendered. The populace is placated by keeping their jobs, houses, etc. We even have UHC and whatever pro communist things you can think of.
340 million Americans aren’t gonna rise up with their guns.

I’m close enough to a conservative around here. I take up my guns and . . . head for the Mexican boarders. My family and I are moving to Chile. I have no urge to raise my family in an authoritarian communist country and I’m not going to abandon my family to fight some rebellion. So we panning what we can and getting help from the local coyotes. I’ve got friends in Paraguay that will take me in until we can arrange emigration to Chile where both my wife and I can work and have a nice life living on the beach making booze.
I’ve lived in authoritarian countries. People are still free to make lifestyle decisions and go about their daily business. Except for extreme forms like Ceausescu’s Romania, human rights don’t really make a lot of difference to a great majority of the people. A simple majority can be as authoritarian as a ruling regime. In a corrupt state, bribery and petty administrative indifference can be the game-changers.

I’m very unlikely to join the resistance. I’m married and I have a young child. Might try to flee the country.

Rule 1: anyone joins the resistance or even thinks about joining the resistance and the 10 most populous states are zapped. All women, men and children. Dogs may be sad and cats now have a new source of food for a while but they are all gone.
And the rules are changed so that civilians and even entire states can be fried.

For all subsequent occasions of joining a resistance or thinking about protecting themselves, the next 10 most populous states will be zapped. This continues until no states remain.

No questioning the rules or the next 10 states get zapped. Washington DC counts as a state, just because.

Methinks your floating a hypothetical that we have Chinese overlords that provide a pretty decent society as long as one doesn’t question their right to rule. I think that decent society assumption trade-off is waaaaaaaaay out there for a hypothetical.
I would wait it out because the Confucian philosophy that underlies all Chinese political thinking during his life and after his death, can’t tolerate those who fail to accept it and assimilate.
When I took some Chinese history courses and China grew and shrank the capital moved North and South, the question always raised was “What makes a people Chinese?” and the professor’s answer was, “If you understand and accept Confucian philosophy and Chinese ways, you’re Chinese.”
I can’t find the quote and it may be apocryphal but supposedly a Chinese Emperor was asked why they never invaded Vietnam, he said “The would never accept the Chinese ways. They’re too independent”.
In some corners of the Web, Canada is full-blown socialist, communist, and Marxist, all at the same time; Justin Trudeau (who, incidentally, is Fidel Castro’s illegitimate son), is being paid by the Communist Party of China; and the Chinese military regularly holds training exercises on Canadian soil, in preparation to invade the United States. Providing UHC to Canadians is just one step in getting the Canadian populace to accept government control over their lives, as in China.
