@OldOlds, my daughter and I went to this restaurant last night, so here is the promised update.
Sadly, we were very disappointed. I tried to order the dish you recommended which Shalmanese translated as “Pork with Vegetables and Chinese mushrooms”. Unfortunately, that was not on the English menu at all, the regular menu or the special menu, the closest thing was just “Pork with Vegetables”. I tried to explain what I wanted to the waiter, and said multiple times “Pork with Vegetables and Chinese mushrooms”, but what I received was a very bland plate of gristly pork bits, cabbage, some bamboo shoots, and some wood ear mushrooms, with a sauce that I think was just chicken stock and corn starch. No seasoning or flavor whatsoever.
My daughter ordered sweet and sour chicken, thinking she’d get a meal of chicken and vegetables in a sweet and sour sauce. Instead, she got a plate of deep fried chicken fingers with a side bowl of bright red sugary sauce with a few slices of bell pepper, onions, and two maraschino cherries in it. She’s allergic to cherries, so we tried to send the dish back and she ordered shrimp lo mein instead. We did share one chicken finger, and it was lousy - a ton of soggy batter, with a dry piece of chicken in the middle. The lo mein was OK, but had about 3 tiny shrimp total.
So overall, dinner was lousy to awful. I will note there was a table of 6 native Chinese speakers nearby who seemed to be having a great time, so maybe if you know what you’re asking for you can get their good food. But for us, it was terrible, and I wouldn’t recommend the place at all. If you order 3 random dishes and they’re all mediocre or worse, I don’t think it’s a good restaurant.
Here’s a picture of the pork with vegetables dish I received - you can see one of the chicken fingers in the background. Also the Special menu, with interesting things like Pork feet or Duck blood, but nothing that resembled what you described.
I honestly don’t get it - it’s still getting great reviews on google. Maybe it was a bad night, maybe you have to know exactly what to order & what to avoid. But like I said, there was a table full of Chinese speakers having a great time, so they must have been happy with what they were eating.
