chinese new year!

I feel like i’m under siege here! My building is but half a block from the main street through Chinatown, and the firecrackers are going off like mad, even from 23 floors up.

I wanna go down and watch the parade and dancing dragons and stuff, but i’m stuck at work. :frowning:

You think YOU are surrounded by the Chinese New Years celebrations?!?! Try actually having 1200 million people shooting off fireworks around you at the same time, long into the night!

Luckily, I don’t have to work, and I wasn’t planning on sleeping last night anyway

Just remember, “duck and cover” if they start shooting fireworks your way!

I only remembered it was Chinese New Year because when I hit Google it had a Chinese kite and a snake on it.

Happy New Year!

Well, any excuse for another Happy New Year. Is it Year of the Snake, BTW, and is that the same as a Dragon?

In real life, maybe. But as far as the Chinese are concerned, they’re two different animals.

I thought Chinese New Year was in February.

Isn’t that when the parades are?

It’s early this year. Don’t ask me why; I only look* Chinese…

The Chinese New Year is determined by the LUNAR calendar, not the regular one. It is usually in early February, but it moves around and it’s unusually early this year.

Last year was the year of the Dragon, this is the year of the Snake, then comes the year of the Horse.

Anyway, Gong Xi Fa Cai to ya’ll
