Sometimes, when cleaning, a brush just doesn’t do the job. Often, I end up chipping crud away with a fingernail.
So… Is there a “fingernail” kind of “chisel” or brush or other tool?
I thought about making one out of plastic, shaving down a spatula, say… (Actually, I’m just relishing the opportunity to say “spatula,” which is one of the funniest words in the English language…) I also thought of making a kind of wedge out of soft wood, maybe a piece of pine. Say 2 inches by 9 inches, 1/4 inch thick at one end, tapering down to nothing. Again, a kind of chisel.
Ideally, it won’t scratch most surfaces… The advantage of a wooden wedge is that I can dampen it, to soften it a little…
I’m thinking about those plastic paint or spackle “spreading” tools at hardware stores - usually they have a flat front edge, beveled on one side. Check the caulking or paint aisles.
I love this place! I love you guys! That’s just exactly the kind of magic answer I wanted! (And…I’ll also visit a hardware store and look at spackle spreader thingies.)
Thank you!
ETA: I love the login name Ferret Herder. I’ve known people who kept pet ferrets, and…yeah!
Yeah, I owned ferrets for about 15 years; think of the phrase “it’s like herding cats” but add ferret personalities. For the last two years, my husband and I have owned rabbits and we absolutely adore them, but I’ve had this handle for so long that I like it.
I have a set of scrapers that do this sort of thing even better than old credit cards. Go to www.qvc.com and look for K28511, Skrapr Set of 4 Large & Small Kitchen Utility Tools

I use them for all sorts of scraping tasks and they perform beautifully.
