"chisel" brush for household cleaning?

Sometimes, when cleaning, a brush just doesn’t do the job. Often, I end up chipping crud away with a fingernail.

So… Is there a “fingernail” kind of “chisel” or brush or other tool?

I thought about making one out of plastic, shaving down a spatula, say… (Actually, I’m just relishing the opportunity to say “spatula,” which is one of the funniest words in the English language…) I also thought of making a kind of wedge out of soft wood, maybe a piece of pine. Say 2 inches by 9 inches, 1/4 inch thick at one end, tapering down to nothing. Again, a kind of chisel.

Ideally, it won’t scratch most surfaces… The advantage of a wooden wedge is that I can dampen it, to soften it a little…

Any suggestions? Does something like this exist?

I’m thinking about those plastic paint or spackle “spreading” tools at hardware stores - usually they have a flat front edge, beveled on one side. Check the caulking or paint aisles.

I just use an old credit card, particularly for scraping off dishes.

Aye on the old credit card. I keep one in the junk drawer and one above the sink, for dishes.

Oh and one in the laundry room for when I had a dumbass roommate who liked to wash and dry his bubble gum.

Ooh! Old credit cards!

I love this place! I love you guys! That’s just exactly the kind of magic answer I wanted! (And…I’ll also visit a hardware store and look at spackle spreader thingies.)

Thank you!

ETA: I love the login name Ferret Herder. I’ve known people who kept pet ferrets, and…yeah!

We have something like these for scrapping baked-on food off dishes. Also good for various crusty cleaning jobs

Plastic putty knives are good as well.

My Rubbermaid kitchen brush has such a scraper. So does the Oxo Good Grips kitchen brush:

Pampered Chef makes nylon scrapers but an old credit card works well, as does a narrow plastic spackling tool as suggested above.

Yeah, I owned ferrets for about 15 years; think of the phrase “it’s like herding cats” but add ferret personalities. For the last two years, my husband and I have owned rabbits and we absolutely adore them, but I’ve had this handle for so long that I like it.

Oooh, Oooh, I know, I know!!!

I have a set of scrapers that do this sort of thing even better than old credit cards. Go to www.qvc.com and look for K28511, Skrapr Set of 4 Large & Small Kitchen Utility Tools
QVC Price: $18.75

I use them for all sorts of scraping tasks and they perform beautifully.

Walmart has some, 79 cents. Look in the cookware area. Sickly yellow, and green. Kinda of like 1970s kitchen motif.
