Yeah, I guess it’s more of a diner but I wouldn’t order it out anywhere.
I’ve had milkshakes a few times with burgers.
I think the thing that separates the two is that chocolate milk is something they’d have to satisfy those picky kids that will eat nothing but chicken nuggets and chocolate milk.
Not to be blunt, but if you don’t order something that you want because you are concerned with what strangers at a restaurant will think of you, you shouldn’t be making fun of others.
A tip for those in the New York City area. Macy’s has a chocolate department. I was there last year and they sell hot chocolate. There were different flavors. My sister, my niece, and I all ordered the dark raspberry chocolate and we all agreed it was the best hot chocolate we had ever had.
I ordered exactly what I wanted, a glass of water, then coffee, then buttered toast then an omelette with hash browns on the side. Regardless, I will comment on others as I see fit.
We’re talking about regular chocolate milk. Not some fancy designer chocolate milk. I would make an exception for such a chocolate milk if there was a place that had it and took pride in the drink or marketed it in some way.
Oooh! I LOVE chocolate milk, and it’s my favorite post-run treat. Protein, sugar, calcium (and I just fell AGAIN today, so yay for the calcium). Good to hear from you that I’m on the nose here.
I once was on business staying at a really upscale resort in Scottsdale, and was having a hugely stressful day/week. As soon as I checked in and got to my room, I
ordered a large chocolate milk from room service. They didn’t (audibly) blink, just smoothly delivered my precious comfort drink posthaste. I think it cost $12 without the service charge or tip, but it would have been worth it even if it was on my dime.
And I will feel free to comment that you worrying you are making much ado about nothing. Why should anyone care that you are overly concerned with status?
I’m not a chocolate milk fan myself, but I come down on the side of those calling ‘good on table guy for ordering whatever he wanted to!’
In fact, my preference is for strawberry milk, (cool wedding story Corner Case,) and though I’ve never ordered it in a public establishment, that’s mostly because I’ve never been in a public establishment that either:
put it on the menu,
gave me any reason to believe that they’d have it or be happy to make and serve it.
Hi, Opal.
Nowadays I mix it up myself with lactose free milk, (grumble grumble digestive intolerance,) and have even started filling up a little one-cup kid’s drinking bottle to bring a bit of strawberry goodness in to work with me for an early morning pick-me-up.
I do often order milk in a restaurant, usually if I’m having breakfast. Pancakes, maple syrup, bacon, good hash browns, and a tall glass of cool milk = the perfect breakfast!
I used to drink a lot of the stuff when I worked second shift University Security. Not all that much better, but I felt better buying chocolate milk at the SuperAmerica than buying soda all night.
Yay! A thread where people are actually calling someone out for being judgmental. And they’re doing it the way I always do it, by judging the person making the remark to show them how it feels.
It’s childishly pretentious to poo-poo a food item that tastes good to someone. Good on them for having the balls to order something they like.
That said, my problem with things like hot cocoa/mocha/double-whip-latte-cream-puff-candy-cane-pumpkin-cinnamon-mocha-surprise is how sickeningly sweet they usually are. Despite what I said above (yes, irony noted), I can’t really help looking down on people who put too much sugar in their coffee, or who can stand these super sugary concoctions. Refine your palates people! (Coke, you hear me?)
I guess according to the OP, I’m about to turn in my man card, but I use to drink a big mug of chocolate milk daily for dinner. It’s one of my favourite drinks, and I think if you don’t make it too sweet, it’s healthier than a soda or an alcoholic beverage. Can’t remember if I ever ordered it in a restaurant, but I would have no problem with that at all.
I was visiting a little town called Cuneo in Italy. They were celebrating their 800 year anniversary. The Best Western didn’t have milk on hand but said they could get boxed milk. I’d never heard of that. Apparently milk is processed such that it can be stored for a period of time at room termperature. I later found it in a grocery store on the shelf with other canned goods. I thanked them but politely conveyed that I couldn’t bear drinking room temperature milk even if it was safe (i.e. I didn’t say it so bluntly). Well, they arranged to put it in their fridge over night and I could have cold milk in the morning. Wonderful service and wonderful milk.
You drink coffee?! Ewww. It tastes like bitter water. Can’t stomach the stuff. Tea is not much better. Needs some lemon and lots of sugar. Thai Tea with Cream is good though.
There’s no way that milk can enter my body unless it is disguised with a large amount of chocolate or coffee. A chocolate milk habit would do me good.
A couple of weeks ago, we went to a free wine tasting at the liquor store near our house and they served a chocolate wine. I was expecting YooHoo with an aftertaste, but damn that stuff was good. I wouldn’t allow my husband to buy any because I don’t think I could drink it in moderation.
