I’m just curious as to how most of you people pick what to put in your sigs. Other then going around those lovely threads that give you stuff like the Fish, Saint and Wally sig thread of course.
So how did you come up with yours?
A favourite book? Or maybe just something you heard somewhere that you liked…
Other than my wonderful sigs from fellow posters, my sigs have come from 2 sources of late. One is a favorite book, I highly recommend for everyone: “The Greatest Miracle in the World” by Og Mandino and some quotes from a dear friend, who prefers to remain anonymous. I’ll be happy to share some, if you like.
Mine came from a great little book called “Graffiti Lives, OK” by Nigel Rees. He is an Englishman who made it his mission to complie all the witicisms that were etched forever on the lavatory walls, fences, buildings and condom vending machines of the world.
My sig is but one of many I could have used.
I have a great use for the great sig’s I see on SDMB. I paste them into a text file, then recycle them later as scrolling screen savers. My workmates wonder where they all come from!
I’ve collected quotes for years, so I have a few lists to pick from. I also own several books of quotes–one of my favorites is The Portable Curmudgeon, the name of the author of which escapes me at the moment.
Ah, The Portable Curmudgeon, what a great book. The editor was a dude by the name of Jon Winokur. A second book called “The Return of…” or something like that was released in mid 1995.
I either get mine from movie & TV quotes, or Bible verses. For the latter, I get real obscure ones, like this:
*Judges 14:8-9:
And after a time he returned to take her, and he turned aside to see the carcase of the lion: and, behold, [there was] a swarm of bees and honey in the carcase of the lion.
And he took thereof in his hands, and went on eating, and came to his father and mother, and he gave them, and they did eat: but he told not them that he had taken the honey out of the carcase of the lion.*
Mine is from the movie Dumb & Dumber. It’s my favorite line in the movie. I bought the movie when it came out on video and I played that part at least 20 times to listen to that line. I don’t know why but it just cracks me up!
