Chris Squire of Yes has died

Bassist Chris Squire, founding member of Yes and the only person to have been in every lineup of that band up until now, has lost his battle with leukemia. He was a hugely influential musician with a truly distinctive sound and style, and as one of the prime movers of Yes (along with Jon Anderson) he was one of the founders of the whole prog rock genre. He will be sorely missed.

Billy Sherwood, who has toured with Yes before as a second guitarist, was already slated to play bass on their upcoming tours due to Squire’s illness.

A sad day for music. Farewell, Fish.

Wow…another one of the old gods gone.

RIP Chris and thanks so much for the wonderful music.

I knew he was ill, but this is sad news. Awesome musician, and a voice that could have lead any band other than Yes.

As I said in the other thread I shouldn’t have started…

Ugh, so very young at 67. God I loved his playing, and seeing him live…one of my first, best concert memories.

What a loss, and a unique player. His style/sound was recognizeable a mile away. RIP

F-f-f-f-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-u-u…

I’d be willing to bet I’m the only poster who actually owns his solo album.

C’mon! Fess up!

Very sad, and very sudden – he’d only been diagnosed with leukemia last month.

Godspeed, Mr. Squire.

You Lose.

Fish Out of Water is a wonderful album; I just listened to it a couple of days ago. He actually has two solo albums: a few years back he made a Christmas album titled Chris Squire’s Swiss Choir.

AHHHH! Fuck!

I’ll play Close To the Edge while driving today… :frowning:

Now I’m sad. May his family and friends find peace.

I think he’s the first person ever to perform with Yes to die, too.

RIP, Chris. :frowning:

Their original guitarist Peter Banks died not too long ago.

Jon Anderson is unable to sing now, is that right?

Chris Squire was Yes. The Fish was the sole member who persisted throughout every single iteration of the band’s membership. Keeper of the flame. This is a huge loss for music.

Parallel our sights
And we will find that we, we need to be where we belong
Parallel our heights
Display our rights and wrongs and always keep it STRONG

Yep. The proper thing for the band to do now is to call it quits. But I doubt they will. They were going on tour without Squire this summer, before this happened… I have a feeling Billy Sherwood just got a permanent position with the band.

I saw Anderson live a couple of years ago. He sounded great.

I also own Fish Out of Water. Great record. I’m really bummed about this news. When he dropped out of the tour, I knew something was up.

You Lose #3. I especially like his jam with Patrick Moraz on Silently Falling. I play this album a lot - it’s really a “lost” Yes album.
