Christ on a pogo stick - do you want my reservation or not??

(Not quite nasty or invective-filled enough for a pit thread.)

Every year, hubby and I rent a cabin with some friends for a get-away weekend of eating, drinking, and hottubbing. Normally, I book this trip in October. However, with the death of my brother, disappearance (and subsequent re-appearance) of our cat, week-long cruise, brother’s memorial, illness (and subsequent euthanasia) of reappeared cat, and the holidays, I hadn’t gotten around to making a reservation until today.

Of course, our first-choice cabin was reserved by then. So, I sent an email to the Professional Property Management Company requesting information about Cabin #2. (I’m at work and can’t make long-distance phone calls.) They responded fairly quickly, but there were extra fees involved (that were NOT mentioned on the website), so I emailed her back requesting info for cabin #3. I also sent another email asking about their “winter special,” asking which cabins actually qualify, since #2 didn’t. THREE hours later, this chick finally gets back to me with my info for cabin #3, and completely ignores the other email I sent. She didn’t even refer to it. I tried calling with my calling card a couple of times throughout the afternoon, and all I got was voicemail. They don’t return long-distance calls.

They’re closed, so I’m pretty sure I won’t be getting an answer from anyone today. So here’s my beef: I am so totally ready to get this friggin’ trip booked and reserved and paid for - it’s only three weekends away. I need to know about the number and size of the beds available (because you don’t always get that info) and which cabin will cost what amount (because it does make a difference). Can I PLEASE get some damned answers so I can give you my money?!?!?

I work for a residential property management company (houses, doubles, and apartments). We manage LOT more properties than they do. I answer emails as they come in and answer my phone all day long. Why, we even have TWO people here most days!! We know that when people can’t reach us after one or two tries, they give up and go somewhere else. People are contacting us because they are looking for some place to live. I’m TRYING to plan a vacation, dammit. We’ve used the same company for the past three years, and I have never had this much trouble getting simple questions answered in a timely fashion. Unfortunately, they are by far and away the biggest resource for vacation cabins in this area. We don’t have much of a choice.

And this is not the only company I’m bugging over today. I tried getting info from another owner (I think it’s just a husband and wife - not an actual Property Management Company), but they didn’t answer my email, either, and nobody answered the phone there when my husband called. (He gets home at 4:30.) I’ll cut them a little slack, since it’s Mom and Pop, and they probably aren’t even in the same room as the phone and computer all day. They’ve got a great deal on what looks like a pretty nice place, but I can’t speak to a real live human being to get the information I need. :sob:

AARRGH!!

I’ve had similar issues in the past. I figure if they ignore my phone call or e-mail, it’s a sign that I probably won’t like the place they’re renting, no matter how nice the photos and take my business elsewhere.

After all, if they find returning calls an overwhelming chore, God only knows about their cleaning and maintenence. (What if the heater breaks down while I’m staying there? If they won’t return my call to take my money, they probably wouldn’t return a call once they had it.)

See, we’ve never had any problems getting maintenance out there when we’re staying at their places. The only real trouble we had was 3 years ago, when the water evaporated out of the hot tub really really quickly (it was only 10 degrees outside). They came out and re-filled it for us on Saturday morning, so it was up and running by Saturday night!

Every place of theirs we’ve been to has always been very clean and neat. They are the biggest vacation cabin management company in the area, so they know they have a reputation to uphold. We’ve never been let down by the properties themselves.

Thankfully, she emailed me this morning, I called to leave a message, and she called me back and I was able to make my reservation - all within 90 minutes. So, we are finally set!
