The “Maybe it runs in the family” ad toward the top of the story is a bit tacky.
The subtitle of the story says: “Complications from pneumonia; served prison term in shooting death.”
I’m curious. The story says absolutely nothing about his illness or the circumstances behind it. Says he was unmarried with no children. And I assume it’s not common for middle-aged men to die of pneumonia in Los Angeles. Not that it’s any of my business, but I can’t help wondering whether this was AIDS.
