I’m surprised there isn’t some branch of Christianity out there which insists on embracing nudity as a way of undoing Adam and Eve’s original sin…
This is a list of things that I have seen men do that i think are immodest
[ul]
Hollering at women and girls on sidewalks, while inside a car
Touching us when we are trying to get away
Demanding that women go out with you or asking for too much information to get a woman to go with you after she declines.
Snapping bra straps
Bragging about one’s adventures
[/ul]
Not every man does these things, not all men are horrible people. But there ARE a lot of shitheads out there, and christian or not they need a smackdown.
Although it’s a bit odd when you get the checkout line and think “I don’t remember planning to buy this many melons.”
Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. You’re going to tell me what I can say now, on pain of “smackdown”? And the survey respondents are the evil ones? Did you intend to mirror so perfectly what people in this thread are bitching about?
I like how the image of that modest woman covering her face with a veil on top of the website is making me think dirty thoughts. That woman is a succubus.
I’ve thought about this a little more, and having inadvertently fasted until I sat down to dinner today, the following comes to mind:
My former supervisor was an Iranian Shi’ite muslim. I joined him several times in fasting during Ramadan, which is not easy to do, even in an Islamic country. However, we were here in the US where there is no recognition of Ramadan, thus we occasionally attended meetings and seminars where a meal or snacks were available while we were fasting. Rather than ask that the food be covered or removed, he relied on and I developed an inner discipline to not desire food and instead focus on the reason for our attendance. I’m willing to bet that that sort of inner discipline is a very foreign concept to the Evangelical Christian men who responded to the survey.
It should not fall on women to protect men from unclean thoughts when men are capable of inner discipline to avoid desires they do not want. Admitting one’s actions means that the action has already occurred, and one is reacting out of guilt, shame and/or a sense of responsibility. An inner discipline that makes the action nearly impossible to occur to begin with removes the necessity of relying on someone else to control that reaction. Again, I’ll bet this is a very foreign concept to Evangelical Christian men who responded to the survey, but one that would help them avoid sinful thoughts more than describing what clothing women should be wearing.
As your lesser, let me get out of the way so you can exit this thread.
Just what the doctor ordered.
Christian Nudists
http://www.christiannc.com/
Actually most of the nudist groups are family oriented. The entire family goes to camp. It’s no different than any other camp. Volleyball, swimming, hiking, etc. They do it nude but otherwise it’s the same experience. The lack of clothing is no big deal after the first day.

I don’t think that there are enough hours in the day for me to really give a damn about what you do. I have heard some things here and there, and i know that some men do that.
Ah, a reminder why I am happy I don’t go to churches anymore.
(whoops, need to add that I’m agreeing here, lest you think my rant is at you, this is why I no longer attend organized religion churches as well).
Okay, yes… the whole “tweeny slut trying to imitate popstar princesses” thing has gone a bit overboard (and can we just KILL the baby beauty pageant industry please?), but let’s not swing the pendulum over into insanity. JEEEEEEEEEEEEZ!
Stuff like this just makes me see red. THIS is not “Christianity”. It’s some dirty old men’s twisted perversion of tenets and doctrines of their religion. If you are a Christian, then you are supposed to believe that God knew what he was doing. He gave us a brain, he gave us a conscious, he gave us tools for living our lives and a guidebook to do it (and no, it doesn’t say anything about miniskirts in the Bible).
So to have the opinion that men can’t be held responsible for their actions if a girl doesn’t do her “duty” in making sure she is “stumbling block free” is just SHEER IDIOCY. It’s times like these that I wish I swore so that I could get up a real good BBQ Pit worthy OP style rant. Do they not understand that God didn’t create us to be some sort of slobbering apes incapable of exercising self-control or logic? When you work it all the way around, they’re subtly supporting the notion that rape happens because the woman “asked for it” by the way she was dressing. It ignores the real causes of violence toward women, crime, sordid behaviour and so on.
I just can not wrap my mind around why these types don’t GET that God made our bodies, with all its little tingly bits. It isn’t “of the Devil” to enjoy the bennies provided by our sexual natures.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr…
Once again to those that espouse this sort of amoeba brained mentality…,
YOU’RE NOT HELPING!!!
If they can’t be around a woman who walks, runs, bends over, or stretches without getting all hot and bothered, that’s a serious problem, and not for the women. Saying that they actually can’t cope (or can barely cope) with being in the presence of a woman who is just going about her business screams “deep mental health issues” to me…
Nah, they’re just young and experiencing natural levels of horniness. Really. Sex is played up to be this super-addicting, mind-robbing taboo that is completely entrancing to a dude who’s just figured out his wang is a multi-purpose device. An orgasm to a young man feels pretty darned good; sex must really be something! Actually as a young guy I spent a lot of effort trying NOT to think about sex just so I could get other things done.
Trouble with these guys, though, is if they can’t blame someone else for their wicked thoughts, then they face the much harder (heh) reality that they themselves have wicked natures. So much easier to blame others for what we perceive as our own faults than it is to admit we’re not as good as we wish we were. And they’ve been raised/bought into a patriarchal system that allows them to shift their shame onto someone else.
I just ran across a reference to this survey today while reading some things about the Quiverfull movement. This quote in particular seems pretty out there, from William Branham:
And if you dress yourself sexy like, no matter how modest you think it is, and go out on the street, and some old sinner looks at you to lust after you, at the judgment bar you’ll be guilty of committing adultery with that man when he answers for it. Why is it? It was you was the one done it. You presented yourself that way, so you are the guilty one. And you, no matter how virtuous and pure you’ve lived, you’ll be guilty before God of committing adultery with a sinner, just the same as you’d went through the act. Jesus said so.
So, if they don’t dress modestly, they are adulterous. I’m pretty sure they are adulterous just by being female!
Nuns wouldn’t dress modestly enough for these guys. (At least, post-Vatican II). Seriously, though, they wear shirts with pockets on them. Calf-length skirts. And I’ve even seen some of them carry purses across their chest!!! gasp
