What I was trying to say was that I believe that the changes are incremental as the state of the art of oncology finds better doses and some better drugs, to minimize the over health effects on the patient. But overall, the basic technique is the same. In effect the oncologists are still poisoning the body in an effort to selectively kill off high metabolism cells, which will most heavily affect cancer cells.
It’s like talking about how skin grafts for burn patients today are often more effective, because of improved surgical techniques, but are still the same basic treatment plan used twenty years ago, simply a bit more refined. I just don’t think that the analogy to current techniques being viewed the same as bloodletting will ever happen without some kind of revolutionary new treatment.
ETA: I am glad to hear it’s no longer as debilitating. Just in case that doesn’t come through.
She is getting reconstructive surgery - so - as she says in the article - she’ll have great boobies in her 90s. Hopefully, she won’t get a plastic surgeon recommendation from Tara Reid.
My sister elected to go for the falsie and skip reconstruction. But she isn’t a Hollywood actress who makes a living partly off her chest.
So, to be fair, I also first entered this thread based on the title, hoping for something wonderful regarding Ms. Applegate’s boobies. As a man whose mind spends far too much time in the gutter, I have long been a fan of said boobies, and have spent much time hoping to see more of them.
But, clearly, this is not really what the thread is about. So…
#1) To Christina (who I seriously doubt ever looks at this message board, but still…): Terribly sorry that this happened to you. Cancer is not something I would wish on anyone, and it truly sucks that it struck so soon after you really showed your acting savvy (saying this because I think the girl absolutely rocked in Anchorman).
#2) To ivylass: Just like in point #1, I am truly sorry that you have to go through something like this. But, I am incredibly happy to hear that there have been advances w/ regards to making chemo suck a little bit less. Consider me among the folks that are sending wishes of wellness your way.
i think she has made the correct decision regarding her risks and body parts.
equally important is that ms applegate is setting up a foundation for women to get the mri they need if they don’t have insurance or the insurance they have won’t cover it. that will save quite a few lives.
