Christmas Idea for wife: Awesome Bra. What is the best?

I wouldn’t put Nordstrom’s and Victoria’s Secret in the same category. The levels of training and experience of the people there are quite different. See carnut’s post above.

A special-needs bra store is a good idea if you can find one, but if you can’t, go to Nordstrom’s.

Some things in life are worth it. Like a woman who loves you enough to remember you on Christmas. Just do it. Make your Season bright.

Yeah, there is a reason women swear by the Nordstrom staff - they do tend to know their stuff. Victoria’s Secret salespeople are retail drones who got four minutes of training on how to measure from someone who was taught in a corporate game of telephone.

VS bras were fine when I was a 22 year old B cup looking for a sexy bra.

Special needs bra stores are lovely if you have special needs - but they make bra shopping feel like going out for orthopedic shoes. Bra shopping is seldom a pleasant experience, but that adds a level of unpleasantness unnecessary. (Been there, done that.)

ETA: I like the idea of making bra shopping some sort of outing. Take her bra shopping - deposit her in the hands of someone capable of picking out a bra (and warning, the ones that work for me best are around $75 each) - then go out for dinner or drinks.

I have been to Nordstrom’s for a bra fitting, and it was a great experience, and resulted in me getting two of the best bras I’ve ever owned. (And not too spendy, either.) I also had a fitting at Victoria’s Secret, and wound up with a badly-fitting piece of crap that looked nice in my dresser drawer but had no other useful function as far as I could tell.

My mom and I went to a famous local bra shop (not a “special needs bra shop” - a standalone lingerie store of great repute) to get new bras before my wedding. It was fun, a little wacky (having an elderly granny type critically surveying your bosom is an odd feeling) but ultimately we both got GREAT fitting bras. We also both learned we were wearing the wrong size. Which, I understand, is typical, with most women wearing a band size to big, and cup size too small.

Hero, if you haven’t done this yet, I really do recommend you go to Nordstroms. I went there today and got fitted for the first time in several years after a, umm, body change. Fantastic fit. Was it spendier than I wanted. Sure. But now I know a couple of bra brands and styles that work. I can look for them on the internet or in cheaper shops. Well worth the money spent.

Whatever you decide make sure your wife doesn’t accidentally switch her Xmas list with your Xmas list. Your request for duct tape might cause problems.

I really love Wolford bras. Not so much for sexy but for comfort, fit, and long lasting…ness. They cost a pretty penny, though. They range from about $100 to $150.

I want that!

Hero, where are you, geographically? If you’re anywhere near a city with a branch of Intimacy, they’re excellent - the fitters really know their stuff, and they carry both practical and “fun” bras. They do gift cards, too.

Everybody mentions Nordstrom, as if they were around the corner in every town/city. Hah, how I wish it were so!

I was fitted a while back by someoe at Soma’s, when I lived at a place that had Soma’s as a standalone store. Where I live now, there is VS… and little else. Not to disparage VS, most of my bras are from there. And they’re actually comfy, nice, and keep everything in check. But I don’t exactly want to get fitted there.

I just checked Nordstrom’s website. No stores in Louisiana (where I lived), and all stores in GA are in Atlanta, over an hour away.

I’m much too aged to have such a juvenile smirk on my face at this moment…

Best wishes,
hh

If you head to Atlanta, and are in the mood for bra shopping, stop. If its only a little over an hour, it might even be worth it for a trip. Although I did have a bad bra fitting at Nordstrom (band too tight, salesperson assumed it would stretch out a bit, it hasn’t - but its so uncomfortable I don’t tend to wear it. I COULD have taken it back though, its Nordstrom.).

My sister is six hours from a Nordstrom. And she still goes there to buy bras when she is in town. Well, until she had a mastectomy. But now she’s “reconstructed” and is back to Nordstrom.
