Bra shopping

Ok, yesterday, I was at the mall and decided to look for new bras while I was there, since it is time for some new ones.

Anyway, I’m looking at these nice, pretty ones, thinking “wow, I never see bras this pretty in my size” So I’m thinking I’m getting some new bras, right.

Turns out, these were more like training bras. Which will never fit my D’s. The only ones that I sort of liked in my size were lace, unlined, and the fabric felt like it would be rather itchy.(why did they have these stocked next to mine. I felt rather disillusioned by the whole thing. :stuck_out_tongue: )

Dangit. Anyone know where to get really pretty bras for larger boobs? I am so insanely jealous of women with little perky ones who can wear the pretty ones.

Victoria’s Secret can have some decent ones, but they tend to be expensive-though I don’t mind paying a little more for pretty ones with the support I need.

Please, please, please let me know if you know a good place.

Fredricks of Hollywood sells fancy/sexy bras for those of us who have more than than a handful.

Sorry, can’t help you out much here, I have little perky ones!

I just want to do a slight hijack here and announce I have found THE BEST push up bra in the world. The Frederick’s of Hollywood water bra is AMAZING. It works much better than either the Mircale bra or the Wonder bra. I showed some of my coworkers how it made me look (imagine, if you will, a small bathroom stuffed with women, staring as I pull my top over my head), and now they are rushing out to get one for themselves.

I can’t wait to wear mine Monday night!

I dunno, but let me be a first to volunteer to help out any female doper-types out there with their large, pretty, lacy bra shopping…maybe we can put together a BraDopeFest.
No need to thank me, just doing my part to help out.

I always have the same problem. When I was still a D, I used to pay the extra for Victoria’s Secret. It wasn’t actually that expensive in american dollars, but once you did the exchange rate, shipping and handling, tax, etc, it could be pricier.

I’ve had some places online recommended to me. You could try:

How you doin’?

Nordstrom’s.

I found some online from justmysize.com. Aside from that…NO ONE carries nice pretty ones for F cups. sigh Damn, I really want a reduction.

I really don’t like bra shopping very much. I wear a pretty average size (38C), so I don’t usually have trouble finding what I want. I just don’t really like it.

I had a friend who was an H cup, and she pretty much always had to get her bras special ordered. She did have good luck with one particular catalog company, called Roaman’s, IIRC. They were a little pricier, but good quality.

porcupine–you mentioned Nordstrom’s. Did you go in for the whole fitting, or just but what you think is the right size?
I’m asking because I’ve heard that Nordstrom’s does a great job with fittings–but I was 13 the last time I asked for help
buying a bra, so I’m a bit shy. Supposedly, most women are wearing bras that fit badly. I’d pay a goodly amount to get a bra that was both comfortable and supportive–if it looked good, that would be a bonus!!

I will more than happy to assist you ladies with your bras.

If you want not as expensive but functional, Hanes outlets have a large selection. Maidenform also might. Generally, getting fitted is a good thing- a lot of women don’t wear the right size.

Maybe Sears? Then again, I’m a small and perky gal, so I wouldn’t be much help. Then again, I don’t have pretty bras either except for a satin lavender one. sigh

The only thing about ordering them in the mail is that the sizes might be inaccurate (I believe andygirl touched upon that subject in her post).

I don’t think they have a website, but there is a store out in Troy, Michigan called (appropriately enough) Bra World. They carry bras in sizes I’ve never heard of before. Since most stores do not carry my bra size in stock, I either have to shop at this store or have them custom made. Custom made bras can run you 50-75 dollars, which is pretty expensive.

To quote Falcon “I really want a reduction”. If you can get your doctor to document that your breast size is causing significant problems in your back/shoulders/neck, some insurance companies will cover the cost of the surgery. My doctor is willing to attest to this, on the condition that I lose 50 pounds first. However, I have this feeling that if I lost the weight, my back would probably stop hurting so much.

I wear a 36D, and I find that the only bras that fit comfortably allllll day (the true test of a bra, IMHO)and still look sexy (I’m 19, I refuse to wear a Playtex 18 hour monstrosity!) and Victoria’s Secret.

My favorites and the Body Flex and the Satin Full Figure collection. Also, the speciality ones (lace, embroidery, etc) and really expensive but good for special occasions.

For working out, I just buy cheap sports bras from Target.

So cough up the extra cash for Vickie’s - it’s definitely worth it.

I wear a pretty normal size, but I have never found an underwire bra that I like. Unfortunately. The damn things are all over the place! Any good sources of pretty/sexy bras that aren’t underwire? (If anybody can name a source of pretty, soft-cup, cotton bras, I swear, I will nominate you for sainthood.)

Of course, I have a little time, because flod2k isn’t showing signs of wanting to give up his milk factory anytime soon…

Seems to illustrate the point that getting sized is of some importance.

Underwire? GAK!

Drain Bead, a possesser of impressive ta-tas, shops exclusively at Victoria’s Secret.

Funny story: She drags me to a Victoria’s Secret when I am in town one day. They are having a big clearance sale, and the items are all arranged haphazardly in seemingly random bins in the middle of the store.

Drainy was confused, and mumbled to herself, “How does this work?”

So I replied, helpfully, “Well, you use them to hold up your hooters.”

She cracked up laughing.

In the same visit, when she was trying on something in the fitting room, an employee came over and asked, “Can I heop you find anything?”

I responded, “No, I know where she is.” I heard heer stiffle a laugh in the changing room.

I don’t know what I’m happier about with Drainy - her impressive ta-tas or that she likes my jokes!

My mom managed to talk the insurance company into paying for a reduction for me a couple of years ago (she is very good at dealing with insurance companies, for some reason). IT WAS WORTH IT. All the insurance aggravation, the post-operative dry heaves (damn anesthesia) and a fair bit of pain for a few days, are nothing compared to the relief I feel now. From a D-cup to an A-cup (I’m quite petite, I was waaaay too big). Aaah. I’ve kept one of my old bras for laughs. So if anybody else is out there considering it, I’ll offer this word of advice: if you want it bad enough, go for it. Find a good surgeon. Even bandaged afterwards, when I looked down, I saw a lot less of me. It was beautiful.

What I don’t understand is why practically every A-cup out there has underwire! I don’t NEED underwire! I have sworn never to wear underwire again; heck, I can go braless if I’m wearing a non-transparent shirt and nobody would notice. Can anybody answer that one?

I will never ever for the life of me understand why some people want to be BIGGER. Still, to each her own.
