I usually buy underwire bras and then make a little hole in the sides and pull the underwire out.

I understand…first I need to lose around 80 pounds. Then, I’m finding a doc to say I have back pain. And enlisting my mom’s help on getting insurance to pay for it. I’d be happy with a C. Hell, I’d be happy with a D.
Until then, I’ll be in my 18 hour Playtex bras, thanks…
Dang y’all, sorry for complaining about my D’s. I can’t imagine any bigger. My mother has said she doesn’t know where I got them, cause no one else in my family is this big.
I’m just afraid that if I ever have kids, they’ll get a lot bigger.
I actually haven’t gone for a fitting yet (but I should cuz I’m a 38D and finding bras that fit and are comfortable is not easy), but I have a friend who is a “boobologist” (she currently works with mastectomy patients, but used to work at Nordstrom’s), and she says that’s the best place to go.
I have such the opposite problem from you, but I found that website to be the perfect place. The only place, as a matter of fact, that I have actually found my so-called size.
Ain’t it GREAT? Only place I can find my size too. If it wasn’t for them…shudder It wouldn’t be pretty.
My mom had breast reduction surgery about 25-26 years ago. She went from an F-cup to a C-cup. Insurance did pay for it, IIRC. She also has no regrets about it whatsoever.
If your breasts are causing you physical pain in your back, neck or shoulders, as they were with my mom, I’d recommend the surgery. My mom was able to be a lot more physically acitve after she had her surgery–for some women, breasts that large can be a hindrance.
Just be sure to get your regular yearly check-ups, do your self-exams if you know how (if not, ask your doctor–he/she will be happy to show you), and get mammograms done when the doctor says it’s time. The mammograms are especially important if you’ve had reduction surgery. A few years ago, my mom was having hers done, and they found a shadow. The doctor was almost 100% certain that it was just scar tissue from the surgery, so they went ahead with a needle biopsy, and the doctor was quite right–just scar tissue. But knowing that kind of thing is important, in case there’s a problem in the future.
Another vote for Victoria’s Secret bras! I’m a DD, but a size 8 in clothing, so I look like Pamela Lee Whatsherface. And I hate it. Considered breast reduction but was put off because it could make breast feeding impossible (when having kids was something I wanted, that was important to me) and the loss of sensation.
Anyhow now I have sort of made peace with my boobs. When I was in high school I was an athlete, and quit because it was SO uncomfortable. And more than that, I hated the teasing, it was awful…But thank Champion & all the other sportsbra makers out there for making comfortable ones for being active!
And Victoria’s secret rocks. They have some really pretty cotton non-underwire bras…I think it’s the “Elizabeth” bra or something. VS has a wider selection in their catalog than in the stores, too. Also Bali has a good line for us better endowed vavavoom types.
It’s “Nordstrom”
It isn’t plural, and it isn’t possessive.
That said, they generally have a good bra department, and they’ll special order anything.
I’ve have an E/F cup. Now, I suspect that a lot of women of my size wear size D/E, but I guess I was “fitted” correctly at some point, so I go with a larger cup. It makes a big difference. I find my bras to be pretty comfortable. I do not have back or shoulder pain. I guess I am a pretty sturdy, large-boned gal, and I can withstand my boobs. I dunno.
My favorite brand of bra is made by Goddess. They even have a non-underwire version, which is SO comfortable. I believe Lady Grace carries them. But I haven’t had to buy a new bra in a while. I went mad about 5 years ago, and bought like 20 bras. (I KNEW they fit, I KNEW I’d love them forever, why not get a whole lot at once?) My advice: when you find a bra that fits and looks good, etc., GET LOTS OF THEM. You won’t regret it later.
I checked Lady Grace’s web site.
That’s the non-underwire one. I LOVE it! It’s so comfy. Boring colors (white and peach) but very nice.
Well, off I went to Lady Grace and found a 46F,low-front, and reasonably good-looking underwire bra (the Vanity Fair “Satin Fantasy,” to be specific. Why do they give them such dopey names?) I am pleased I have to have the low front, otherwise the stupid wire ends up sticking up off my sternum like a ship’s prow.
Thanks for the link!
Lady Grace was a godsend when I was breastfeeding (I went to a 36H) and until I got back to a more normal size. They actually had, in stock, nursing bras in my size.
Now that I’m in California (the land of the “enhanced” breast) I have no problems finding bras in my regular size, a DD. Even Victoria’s Secret has upped their top size to a DD recently.
My fav of late is the Body by Victoria bras…comfy, seamless and sexy with no itchy lace.
Does it come in sizes bigger than a 36? So far all the push up bras I’ve found are for average sized women what about us slightly larger ones. I’m only a C cup but dammit I want cleavage too!!
Catrandom, you beat me to it. I was just about to recommend Vanity Fair’s Satin Fantasy. I have the same problem with the wires sticking up in the middle with most bras. When I was smaller (pre-breastfeeding), Victoria’s Secret Satin Full Figure bras were good for me, too. They also come in lots of colors.
I also like Goddess bras. They come in underwire and non-underwire styles, too :). They aren’t as sexy themselves, but they hold you up well and they make you look sexy in clothing, IMO.
I buy my bras at http://www.barenecessities.com .
Anyone else like their bra band size tighter than it’s “supposed” to be? Most sizing formulas tell you to measure around your body where the band lies, and then add 5-6 inches. My measurement it 33", so my size “should” be 38. Thirty-eight is too loose, though. A 36 gives me much better support, and the straps never dig into my shoulders. (And yes, I can still breathe just fine.) However, this makes bra buying that much more difficult, because I have to go up a cup size (or sometimes two!) to make the cups fit right. I often wonder if they tell us to buy the wrong size on purpose, so that the bra manufacturers have to make less sizes :(. No wonder mumblemumblelarge % of women wear the wrong size bra.
I wonder what mumblemumble % of the readers of this thread are actually female.
Me? I accidentally clicked on it. I meant to click on “Where is USC anyway?”
[sub]Yeah, that’s it . . . [/sub]
iampunha, I hope some men are reading this thread, actually. They can be properly educated on the dark side to ahem big knockers. I can remember DH’s great disappointment when he actually looked at lingerie sizes and discovered that he could not easily dress his dreams-come-true in all those pretty things he’d been eyeing all his adolescent life. “Why do they only go up to C?” he’d say? “They’d look so much better on you!”
I’ve been a seamstress since I was in high school for pretty much this same problem: not finding clothing that FITS.
I’ve purchased a kit and a pattern to attempt to sew my own bras. NOTHING on the market currently fits me. I’m quite large but, apparently, of a bit of a different shape than what the manufacturers make for: more sticks out the front rather than being under my arm. I found the supplies and patterns at:
So, wish me luck and the time to actually get the sewing done!! Further updates if I get anything done this weekend…

Well, yeah, but I meant that some are probably reading this thread and getting off.
There was a thread dedicated to the les well-endowed a few months ago that had an insane number of views . . . and most of the posting was done by guys.
