Christopher Lee has died, aged 93.

That other guy is merely an actor. Christopher Lee actually was The Most Interesting Man in the World.

Really nice tribute on Peter Jackson’s Facebook page. My favorite bit:

I think I have me an autobiography to read.

He always struck me as a man who felt he had absolutely nothing to prove and for all his serious persona he seemed to wear his talent lightly. Judging by the comments on his war experiences I can now see why.

When Star Wars debuted in 1977 the actor inside the Darth Vader outfit was not credited, although he has been since

I tried to figure out who it might be and my best guess was Christopher Lee. I hadn’t thought of the voice and the body as being two different actors. There was the tall frame and the deep, rich voice.

I also loved him as Scaramanga, in The Man With the Golden Gun. He almost beat Bond.

Here is a great music video of him. It’s a great song.

Here is a nice write-up from a guy who visited the set during LOTR filming and got a picture with Christopher Lee.

The picture is part of the way down.

As part of my Christopher Lee memorial fest, I started with the Hammer version of Hound of the Baskervilles first thing this morning. The DVD also has an interview with Lee, in which he talks about his long friendship with Cushing (and tears up a little over the last time he saw him, and made me mist up too). He mentions their doing impressions: “He would do Jimmy Durante. I would do Yosemite Sam.” They talked to each other on the phone that way, which is hilarious and adorable when you think about it.

RIP

The animated versions of Terry Pratchett were a mixed bag, but in Soul Music Christopher Lee voiced the perfect Death. Bony - knees?

Monday, June 22, TCM is going to show his Hammer movies during the day, from 6 a.m. till evening.

Sir Christopher having fun & singing excellently…
