I received this message from the future on my Positronics Corporation Chronoradio a couple of years ago. I invite you to share your own transmissions from the future. 
“…and we tried to appeal to our countrymen with reason and the truth of history. We showed them the truth in so many ways. That didn’t work anymore, our examples for what amounted to effective argument during those last days of the late great U.S.A. were drawn from campaign adds and the propaganda of the two parties. All inflaming the worst qualites of men through prejudice and rhetoric. There was one man who tried in the extremeties and injustice of those days to compare the coming days to the rise and fall of the German Third Reich and Bush as Hitleresque. He was ridiculed, insulted, and raked over the coals by those who were in denial or too blinded by patriotism to recognize reason and see clearly beyond their provincial and isolated extreme. His assessment was reasonable and more than justified if one knew history. One needed only to isolate the reasons and circumstances of the decline of all great nations through history. It was a textbook case, all nationalist movements arise in paranoia and radical belief and are founded on fear and war, ours was no different and Hitler was but the most recent parallel and example ingrained in the Zeitgeist. But hey, We were Americans, We were different.
Some saw it coming, some choose the path of least resistance, more than half acquiesced and actively supported the beginning of the horrors we have lived through and have yet to fully forget. So many laughed and played the fiddle in those days…some resisted, but more participated.”

It was a barbaric age. All their political systems were magisterial, and were fixated on the redistribution of material wealth. Their magistrates contained their populations by coercion, claiming eminent domain over arbitrary contours drawn on maps. The governments concocted laws designed to shield those in power from those who were not. Their laws were so complex that they could be understood only by people with specialized degrees in jurisprudence, and yet all people, even the poorest and most ignorant, were held accountable to the laws. Peaceful honest people were incarcerated for nothing more than pursuing their own happiness in their own way. Unscrupulous politicians infested every discipline — government, business, religion, science, and the arts. The wealth people earned was routinely pillaged and concentrated in the hands of governments, who then doled out small portions of it to those it deemed most worthy. Centralized plans were enacted without regard to unforseen consequences. No one paused to consider that the needs of those in rural places might be different from the needs of those in urban places. Everyone thought his own plan was best, and wanted it enacted so that all were forced to adhere to it. Those who loved freedom were persecuted, scorned, mocked, and disregarded. And now to quote from scripture: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all people are created equal, and are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” Amen.

I don’t see what this is doing in Great Debates. How difficult is it to write something like
It was the best time America has ever seen. Many people were rich and even most of those who were poor had food for the day. An overwhelming majority had homes. Some even lived in enormous palaces like the Emperors of old. America’s beacon shone bright and true, seen by all nations.
or
It was a horrible time for America. Black lived among white, in outright defiance of God’s sacred laws. Man could lay with man and openly flaunt it without receiving punishment. Women had as much of a say in who ran the nation as the men, despite their obvious shortcomings. Those who believed in the truth of God and the laws of Nature walked silently, fearful of retribution.
Anyone can write any number of these, and it proves nothing.
