chronology of H. Bosch novels by Michael Connelly

I am reading the series of novels by Michael Connelly that have a main character named Harry Bosch. Does anyone know the chronological order of the stories? I have read two of the books, but I now realize I am reading them out of order. While we’re at it, does anyone know a site on the 'net that would provide this information about other book series? Carl Hiaasen has this strange recurring character (an ex-governor that lives in the Okeefenokee) and James Lee Burke’s detective Dave R. are two other persona that are hard to keep track of, if you don’t know the correct sequence of the books they appear in. (wow, that was a very convoluted sentence, huh?)

There’s a Connelly bibliography at this site:

(Did a google search.)

AuntiePam: thanks for the quick response. The problem with the bibliography is that it tells when the books were published - it doesn’t tell the order in which the character is developed; apparently some of the novels were written earlier and then published recently. I guess it’s no big deal, I just thought someone might know the correct order…

Well that sucks!!! Have you tried reaching Connelly through his publisher? I suppose you’ve already checked to see if he has his own website. Shoot!

Good luck. Maybe you should head over to MPSIMS and butt in on one of the book threads going on.

Or one of those alt.whatever message boards or newsgroups?

How about the official Connelly website? I see there’s a message board. Someone is bound to be able to help.

AuntiePam: Wow! Thanks again! I’ll take a look at that site. It refreshing to know that some of the folks here can be helpful and…well, uh, ahem, nice! You have restored my faith in humankind. Take care

Hey! Most of the folks here are helpful and nice. And you’re welcome.

To paraphrase our esteemed president, “It all depends on what your definition of ‘most’ is.”

I think you’re right, though. Most of the folks who post in GQ are nice. The BBQ Pit is a different story, however.

Wasn’t H. Bosch a renaissance artist? If I’m not mistaken, he was responsible for this huge bizarre tryptich, the center panel of which was entitled “The Garden of Delights”…

Sorry for the off-topic…

Pippy: You are absolutely correct! The character of Hieronymus Bosch (a detective in Los Angeles) was named after the Dutch painter. There is a scene in the book “The Black Echo” that explains how the fictional character got the name, and discusses one of the paintings by the real-life artist. Good catch…
