The Tron poster has been there since episode 1 of season 1, so it doesn’t have specific significance. But I do think they deliberately put it in shot as a reference, as I noticed its looming presence also.
Though I missed the Boxleitner connection. I was too caught up in the great casting choices for Captain Awesome’s parents to think beyond that.
JD has turned into a needy, immature man-child in later seasons.

Well, it was a pretty amazing movie for its time, and unique. It’s best to watch it when you’re about 8 and in 1984. But yeah, I vote you should watch it.
I heard a rumor that they are remaking TRON.
In fact they are making a sequel. A teaser was shown at Comic-Con, starring Jeff Bridges.
