Chuck 4/27

Preview spoiler prevention post.

I was really hoping they would come up with something more original than

Chuck reloading the intersect into himself.

This was a curious inversion of the last episode. Where last week started out slow and ended with a bang, this week continued that bang. They kept throwing more and more stuff at us - Bryce Larkin! Scott Bakula! Bruce Boxleitner! Morgan Fairchild! Jeffster! - right until the Ellie’s ruined wedding. The second half was rather anti-climactic in contrast. Still, the wedding that Chuck arranged brought a tear to my eye; I’m glad that both Bartowski men walked Ellie down the aisle.

I was wondering how they’d arrange for Chuck to get the Intersect back into his head. Where previous uploads would render him unconscious, he seemed to be more resistant to its effects this time around. I’m not sure how I feel about Chuck knowing kung-fu now, but at least next season he won’t have to stay in the car.

There will be another season, right?

Right?

That was quick! I started my usual Chuck thread without realizing that dbuzman had already started one. I asked a mod to merge the two threads, and here we are. Thanks, o great moderator!

Amazing finale! I really hope NBC doesn’t cancel this show.

I suppose I should say I really enjoyed the episode and hope there is another season coming. I was just hoping for something with more imagination as to the exact reason chuck got it back.

“Oh, Chuck me!”

Man, I love this show so much.

I have to confess, I thought Jeffster was pretty awesome.

It looks like they’re going to drop the whole Buy-More subplot, if the show does return. I wonder if Ellie and Capt Awesome will also be dropped.

Jeffster was pretty awesome. If they hadn’t gone for the pyrotechnics I think they would have received a hearty applause.

I enjoyed the show. IMHO, they had to do something a little different to keep fans wanting to see next season.

Jeffster was awesome, the music totally fit the action.

Jeffster came a long way from their Toto performance in the Buy More.

NBC absolutely cannot cancel this show, or they will be in a world of pain. I would assume that they’re getting away from the Buy More altogether, but my wife made a good point that they made a big investment in the Buy More set and the actors have contracts, so they’ll have to get back to it somehow. I just hope that if they do, they do it in a way that isn’t too contrived, and doesn’t involve them going right back to the Buy More in the first scene of the first episode.

Unfortunately, this is the risk with this type of show. Chuck had to get the Intersect back in his head to keep the plot on track, but it was more than a little contrived, kung fu bonus notwithstanding. But finding a way to keep the Buy More involved while still showing Chuck making “life progress?”

I’m a little worried about Chuck’s kung-fu, and what it means if the show is to continue. A lot of the appeal (for me) has always been that Chuck, while clever and bright, was no action hero – he was pretty much useless in a fistfight, and the hot blonde had to rescue his ass. Now that he’s basically Neo from the Matrix, I fear he might lose that.

Then again, they had to do something – they couldn’t keep up the current situation indefinitely.

I don’t think I’d mind if the show ended here. They tied up a lot of loose ends, Chuck’s Dad is free; Chuck’s got the intersect back in his head, and presumably he’ll be off fighting Fulcrum with Sarah and Casey.

If they do bring it back, I’d watch of course. I’m just saying, as series finales go, this wouldn’t be too bad.

It looks like the Buy More is gone. Chuck now has the new and improved Intersect in his head and he has Orion’s bracelet. Also, this time, he chose the life, rather than having it forced upon him. Awesome knows his secret. The show completely changed in the last two episodes.

The season finale was incredible!

I liked the fact that they were willing to tweak a few things in the last few episodes, especially with Captain Awesome finally learning about Chuck’s
role as a spy. I kind of wish that Morgan would be let in on the secret, as
well – does any one agree with me on this?

Jeffster gave a great performance at the wedding. The guys are impressive
and hilarious at the same time!

About Chuck’s new martial arts skills – this will definitely change the nature
of the show (if it indeed continues for another season). Sarah will not have
to fret as much over Chuck’s safety.

I just don’t see the writers totally abandoning the “Buy More” characters,
since they add a lot of hilarious moments, but I am not sure how they will incorporate them into the show at this point.

I really hope that we get a third season!

I see what you mean. It was kind of weird to see Casey stand around looking dumb while Chuck displayed such skills. More realistic would have been for Chuck to get some tutoring from Casey and Sarah in hand-to-hand combat and weapons skills so that he wasn’t completely helpless, but not a major badass.

BTW, what’s the backstory on Orion’s bracelet? I don’t remember it.

I suspect that, if the show is back next season (ohpleaseohpleaseohplease), they’ll put some sort of limit on Chuck’s bad-assery. A likely mechanism will be that he can’t control the skills- they’ll only pop up in situations of life-and-death.

Or, like the ‘flashes’ are temporary in nature and very specific to the episode/mission at hand - becoming a safe cracker, knowing how to fly a jet, etc…

Oh - and while I do enjoy the show, at least Adam Baldwin and Yvonne Stra-something have some athleticism - the fight montages that involve stunt doubles don’t look too off. Zach Levi looked like he was makin’ it up. The Chucks were a nice touch, but added to the doofiness in this case. And while Chuck is meant to be a doof in a cool-geek sorta way, I got the impression that his kung fu display was meant to be badass…
