There was no thread last week, and it’s a short season anyway, so I how about we just do one thread for the season?
SPOILERS AHEAD for all episodes that have already aired. Fair warning.
Last week we had Jeff Fahey as the bad guy and Carrie-Anne Moss as the head of a rival spy company to Chuck’s Carmichael Industries. Not a great episode, but a few good scenes, like Sarah climbing the cliff with Casey shooting the bolts for her. We saw Morgan becoming more and more uncontrollable and apparently beginning to lose some of his memory, and interviewing to work for the rival company.
This week’s (episode 5.03) was much better, I thought. Some good chemistry between Casey and Gertrude (Moss). I loved the scene with Sarah guiding Casey through the street to his “chance” encounter with Gertrude, and how he totally chickened out on asking her out. Always nice to see the softer side of Casey. I’m predicting that when the characters ride off into the sunset at the end of the season, Casey will be with Gertrude.
The reveal that the intersect in Morgan’s frost-tipped head was a trap meant for Chuck was a nice twist and I’m glad there was an explanation for Morgan’s behavior. Morgan’s “recovery” from being an asshole was a little too neat and tidy, but no biggie. He’s still got to get the bad intersect out of his head, though, and he’ll have to work to patch things up with Alex.
My Chuck viewing has been totally disrupted since the move to Friday. I’m finally caught up with the current season.
I really like Sarah’s new hair-do, and I’m not one who usually notices such things. Married life seems to be good for Sarah and Chuck. I’m glad we’re finally past all the will-they-or-won’t-they angst.
I was really quite taken by the idea that Jeff has been how he has been for so long because he was accidentally poisoning himself with van fumes. I’d like to see them do something interesting with the newly normal Jeff. Maybe they’ll discover that he has the aptitude to run the store; that would free up the spies to do the things they need to do, and Lester would be able to amuse us with his attempts to tempt him back into being an addled weirdo again.
No, I don’t care for it either. She’s still hella hot, though.
I liked how Chuck was able to at least hold his own against Morgan after all those “black ninjas” got taken out in training. Sure, he was just on the defensive, and probably couldn’t have beaten the Intersect, but it was still nice in a “he might not have the Intersect but no one knows it better than him anyway” sorta way.
The Matrix stuff when Morgan was fighting, and later dodging bullets, was kinda cheesy, but not too unexpected when you’ve got Trinity guest starring. I much preferred last year’s T2 homage with Linda Hamilton working out in her cell when she was captured.
The rock climbing bit in 5.02 threw me though. There were enough pockets in that wall for a novice to climb, so by no means did it look impossible. And then Casey taking his time to shoot that last bolt was a ridiculous piece of drama. It’s not like she’d fall off the cliff without it, she’d just drop to the last anchor she placed and have to start again. Trust your gear!
Are they not going to have an Intersect the rest of the season? How are they going to bring it back? I wish Lester and Casey were going to the same jail because I like the comic possibilities of the two of them together.
My favorite part from last might’s show was Casey messing with Morgan about the DVDs. He got Morgan to watch “Phantom
Menace” first. Then he told him to watch the originals, but then he told him…Darth Vader was Luke’s father and Leia was his sister. After Casey forgave Morgan, he told him there were only three Indiana Jones movies. I’ve never watched “Crystal Skull,” so to me, there are only three Indy movies. Maybe they’ll get an Intersect in Morgan’s head that will get him to remember all the awesome nerdy culture things he’s forgotten.
Yeah, Casey was great in this episode, from the funny stuff with Morgan to him taking out the Viper and her henchmen.
It was great seeing Lester get foiled by Jeff at every turn.
What I loved most about this episode is that it had just about everyone in it! Aside from the main group of Chuck, Sarah, Casey, and Morgan, we also had the whole Buy More crew, Alex, Ellie and Awesome, and the General.
Someone said something about the studio is being strict with the rights or something, so you might have to wait for the DVD (or quasi-legal methods) if you can’t catch it on TV.
It’s also not showing up on OnDemand, either, unlike every other NBC show.
Anywho…
I was quite surprised that the show ended with Casey being arrested rather than with Chuck (or possibly Jeff!) getting intersected.
Wouldn’t Jeff with the intersect be something? Sure worlds colliding and stuff, since Jeffster never are in the spy parts of the stories, but that would make for a fun one off.
Nuts. I don’t have cable and I can’t get the NBC broadcast over the air. I guess I’ll have to get one of my friends to DVR it or wait until it shows up on Netflix.
I’m very disappointed that Chuck and Sarah couldn’t see it was a setup a hundred miles away, because I could. I thought Decker would stick around all season, so the end was definitely a surprise. We got more than our usual Sarah fan service. Jeffster didn’t annoy me.
I loved the cameos by a couple of *Community *cast members. Danny Pudi (Abed) was great in his brief scene as the replacement Canadian “Hinjew” filling in for Lester. And then I LOL’d at Yvette Nicole Brown’s (Shirley) blink-and-you’ll-miss-it tagline at the end of the scene.
