The season finale is on! In case you haven’t heard the news yet, Chuck has indeed been renewed for its fifth and final season. So that takes care of this season’s biggest cliffhanger. What things can we expect from the actual episode:
[ul]
[li]Will Sarah recover from Vivian Volkoff’s assassination attempt?[/li][li]Will Vivian try to mess up the wedding?[/li][li]Will Alexei Volkoff/Agent X himself make an appearance?[/li][li]Will Chuck and Sarah actually get married?[/li][/ul]
The answer to all these questions is undoubtedly “Yes”. But the writers have a way of toying with our expectations. We should anticipate an actual cliffhanger at the end of the episode. It should be fun to watch.
I like the idea of them being freelance spies. I thought they would end up like that after Orion died. I didn’t like Morgan at first, but he was finally growing on me. I do not like the idea of Morgan being the Intersect.
You know Chuck is in big, big trouble when General Beckman actually appears in person.
Looks like the writers were really hedging their bets on whether this would be the series finale. They still managed to deliver a great episode. Timothy Dalton delivered another fine performance as the suddenly mild-mannered Hartley. I’ve half a mind to go back and watch his James Bond movies, which I skipped back when they came out.
I’m not thrilled about the Morgan-as-Intersect idea. Maybe they’ll resolve that early next season and put him back to normal while at the same time restoring Chuck’s Intersect.
The “freelance spies” situation could be fun, in an “A-Team/Burn Notice” kind of way.
I love the Morgan as intersect idea. He’s been incompetent for four seasons, whereas Chuck was under-developed competent. Now he’s developed competent, and can add to the team using his intelligence. I think 13 more episodes to resolve the Morgan storyline (and bring back Orion - I bet that’s going to happen) and get the team back in the government’s good graces.
I didn’t like Chuck and Sarah buying Buy More. I would prefer seeing them trying to operate on a shoe-string budget, but that’s me.
Morgan and the intersect has much comedic potential. I do hope that Chuck gets it back, though. I predict the CIA guy will be next season’s Big Bad. Also, Chuck and crew need the billion dollars if they’re to keep up with the world hopping spy thing.
Too bad they can’t get Angelina Jolie as Salt on their team. Nah, Salt would not like the funny. But wouldn’t taking out some deeply imbedded sleeper be fun.
Sponsors can come and go. If they didn’t secure a deal and used Best Buy, then Best Buy would never have to spend for free advertising (and with the way some people think trademarks are protected, probably would have filed a lawsuit). If they secured a deal and used Best Buy, but then in following seasons Best Buy backed out, then they would have had to do some kind of freaky name change or give Best Buy free advertising (and lets be honest, it is pretty close to free advertising now). Also, I can’t say for sure, but Best Buy might have gotten upset at Jeff’s and Lester’s characters. I don’t think they would be good advertisements for the Geek Squad.
I thought it was fairly amusing that they bought it because they’d already established that the Buy More made for a good cover. I mean, come on- the bad guys *always *figured out where they were… or even just happened to stumble into the Buy More. As a cover, it kind of sucks.
Now, granted, buying the Buy More let them keep Castle underneath the store… but with the amount of money Volkoff gave them, I’m sure they could’ve built a new Castle in a far more secure location.
Maybe they just liked being next to Underpants, Etc.?
I did go and rewatch them on netflix instant watch because of his performance in Chuck. They’re surprisingly decent. Dalton plays Bond a bit more seriously, and it works well. The villains’ plots are considerably more believable than in some of the older bonds. No one tries to start a nuclear war in order to force humanity to live under the sea. I think “The Living Daylights” is actually one of the better Bond films.
I agree, this episode would have worked well as a series finale. I think giving Morgan the intersect could work. As others have pointed out, Chuck has become too experienced at spy work for maximum comedy potential.
I’m not watching the next season. As far as I’m concerned, the show’s over. Past the first season or two, I never liked the Buy More subplot and mostly fast-forwarded through those scenes. Morgan as Intersect seems like they’re trying to hard and we’ve already been there, done that.
I hope it’s going to go away like the whole Ellie as the intersect thing they hinted at during this season. Otherwise, yeah I’m done too, i have literally zero interest in Morgan as anything more than a minor side character.
The setup sort of reminds me of 5th season Angel, when Angel & company take over Wolfram & Hart. I think there could be potential in Operation Bartowski having to sort through Volkov Industries assets and decide which ones are useful and which ones need to be cleared out.
My understanding is that Volkhoff Industries was completely liquidated and Chuck and Sarah got only cash. They bought their own Gulf Stream, for example.
My prediction is that the CIA are going to be the Big Bad. Ellie will get more involved; she’s a Bartowski and spying is the family business.
