Chuck for Huck: like/dislike, good or bad for Huck's campaign?

Can’t…stop…laughing…
Is he serious? Actually, I find it kinda amusing. I wouldn’t mind if candidates could lighten up more, Al Gore was a stitch on SNL (of course, he did that after the race, not during), but do you think ads like this hurt or help a candidate? Do they make him seem more down to earth and human, or do they make him seem frivolous?

I knew Norris had endorsed him, but when I saw that video, my jaw just dropped & stayed there. Are we to consider Huckabee’s stands as reliable as Chuck’s urban legend status?

I dunno, maybe if it were Vin Diesel & a candidate I liked, that spot’s format would have worked for me.

Nah.

I think it’s great for Huckabee.

I don’t really understand why Huckabee isn’t a frontrunner, since he has everything top tier candidates are missing–he’s a conservative from a conservative state, he has evangelical cred, and he’s incredibly likable. The only explanation is that people just haven’t heard of him, so anything that raises his profile is a positive.

Norris is a right-wing nutjob; his endorsement came in a column at World Net Daily, after all. But that’s exactly the audience Huckabee needs to find his foothold in–the ones who just can’t vote pro-choice or Mormon.

I don’t much like Huckabee’s social conservatism, but the guy’s got a great sense of humor (and good comedic timing), and it’s refreshing to see a politician with a lighter side. People underestimate how valuable that is - Reagan had it, and so did Clinton. And it served them really well.

An instant classic. Raises the bar for all future political ads.

Lord God, how I hate Chuck Norris. Which is to say, I guess, that I hate the image of Chuck Norris, since I never met and don’t know. Which is good, 'cause I don’t need the burden of hating actual people. That said, Lord God, how I hate Chuck Norris. I’ll rent *Return of the Dragon * just to watch Bruce Lee beat him to death. Crunch, punch, kick, crackle, snap, thank you Jesus!

Again, just an image, but vastly more satisifying than porn.

I know very little about Mike Huckabee, but that ad is flippin’ hilarious.

That is one of the funniest things I have seen in a long time. Huckabee (and Norris for that matter) gets points for being able to poke fun at himself.

I love this.

And he just picked up the endorsement of 16 time heavyweight champion of the world, The Nature Boy Ric Flair. http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2007/11/20/wrestler-ric-flair-supporting-mike-huckabee/

Kindasorta pro-Huckabee article from, believe it or not, The Nation.

He’s got nothing to lose, and it’s brilliant.

I’ll watch this later, but it can’t hurt the Huckabee campaign. The Chuck Norris list thing is already well known on the Internet, but if it’s attractive attention from other media it can only get his name out there to more people.

That was great!

I can’t believe he used a joke from “Family Guy” (unless MacFarland stole that joke himself).

Personally, I can’t really take Chuck Norris seriously. Partly because of a movie review I read back in the eighties, where the reviewer noted that his idea of expressing emotion was showing his “puppy dog eyes”. But also, because he was in my dad’s Lion’s Club chapter back in the days when his occupation was given as “karate school owner”, and he couldn’t even be bothered to show up for meetings, much less come to the pancake breakfasts and work the fireworks stand.

Does Chuck Norris help? Yes and no. Obviously, Norris doesn’t speak for any large constituency, and an endorsement like this isn’t likely to deliver large numbers of votes, the way an endorsement from a big labor union could.

Still, Huckabee is a RELATIVE unknown among the electorate, and almost ANYTHING that gets his name on TV or in the newspapers can only be a positive thing.

When did Chuck Norris start looking like some guy in a Chuck Norris mask? Creeeeeepy!

I honestly don’t think Huckabee’s got a shot this time around, but his national name recognition was zero until this year, and I think this kind of move will benefit him in ways that don’t involve him becoming president.

If I were conservative (I’m not), I would be more likely to vote for him based purely off the coolness of that ad. Awesome.

I’m actually starting to think Huckabee’s moving into the top tier. Romney seems to be holding in place and the other former top tier Republicans are dropping. Huckabee might peak at just the right time and place (Iowa and New Hampshire) and become the front runner.

The irony is that I think some of Huckabee’s support is coming from Democrats who feel he’s unelectable - they like him because they think he’d be an easy nominee to beat. And I think a lot of the opposition to Huckabee is coming from the corporate interests that would normally be lining up behind a conservative Republican - they’re worried about Huckabee’s economic populism and they’d rather see somebody they can do business with getting elected. If we end up with a Huckabee/Clinton race, we’ll get to watch the unusual spectacle of Wall Street backing a Democrat.

I read this article about Huckabee a few weeks ago. At least he is thinking outside the box even if I don’t agree with his proposed tax reform.

He might, at the running-mate slot. If Giuliani gets the nomination, who better to balance the ticket than a likeable populist social-conservative Southerner?
