Church-like Social Environment

As I have probably made fairly clear, I’ve recently become an atheist. One of the reasons my parents still encourage me to attend church is simply the social community there. Throughout my life, I’ve been unable to find a community with the love you can find at a church, without the religious aspect. At this point, the next step I’m considering is a Unitarian church, as it seems to best suit me at this point. Does anyone have any other suggestions of places to try and get this environment, that lacks a strong religious context?

I don’t know how active they are, or which if any of them might fit your particular needs, but the Council for Secular Humanism lists five secularist or humanist societies in Oregon.

If you do decide to go with the Unitarian Universalists, they seem to have a number of congregations in Oregon.

Thanks! Just out of curosity, do you have any experience with secular/humanist societies? What are they like?
