Churchill

Everyone who considers themselves familiar with Winston Churchill (1871-1947), raise your hand.

That would be the romance novelist Winston Churchill.

The wildly successful American romance novelist Winston Churchill, so famous in his time that the other one was in his shadow.

Any hands still up? Any minds not a teeny bit blown?

I’d heard of him. As the Wiki article noted, he and the later-much-better-known British politico agreed to use different names in their published works. The Brit used “Winston S. Churchill,” as the American lacked a middle name.

The spoilers come through on the mouse-over, so no surprises after opening the thread anyway.

Churchill mentions him in My Early Life. They exchanged an amusing pair of letters.

Incidentally a while back I was checking for early books by Churchill on Gutenberg and I was excited to find The Crisis which I thought might be his history of World War 1 ( called the World Crisis) but no it turned out to be a novel by the other Churchill. I was quite amused that the two were still getting mixed up on the 21st century Internet.

I’m the guy who wrote that Wikipedia article, so my hand’s up.

I often mention him. Haven’t had a chance to read him except in an old Classics Comic when I was a kid.

Heh, it is great that they both took it with such good form.

I never heard of this “other Churchill”; now I’m curious to read his stuff.

Fine. See if I post any more amusing finds in this board of cheaters… :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve seen his books in the library, but never read one. I have read the short novel that Winston Churchill (the statesman) wrote, Savrola. It wasn’t bad, as I recall.
