CIA employment commercial?

Has anyone else seen the commercial on Discovery channel( Or any where else for that matter.) for the Central Intelligence Agency, offering employment? This is the first time I’ve ever seen this, and Ive been wondering why they’d put out an Ad for employment. The only thing it says at the end of the ad is “U.S. residency required” or something to that effect. Has the CIA done this before?

I saw the ad a couple days ago as well. Here it is on YouTube.

I suppose it’s no different than the armed forces recruiting commercials you see all over the place.

They used to have ads in my college paper ten years ago. I’ve never seen a television ad before, thouhg.

I guess my question would be why must they recruit through nationwide tv? My assumption of the CIA employees always made me think of a government agency that would seek already government-employed individuals, thus having some sort of inside edge on the job. Although i’m suree these jobs aren’t top secret positions they’re offering through the ads Id just be more prone to believe they wouldn’t have to seek people in such a public manner for jobs.
I mean who the heck wouldn’t wanna work for the CIA?

Government agencies actually advertise for Top Secret positions all the time. For a while there were plenty of FBI billboards up (probably still are, but not around my parts at the moment); all FBI Special Agents require a Top Secret/SCI (Sensitive Compartmented Access) clearance. DEA, IRS, ATF, ICE, and most of the other agencies do the same thing when they’re hiring. Anyone can apply, you’ve just got to be able to pass the background investigation.

As far as who wouldn’t want to work for CIA, I can think of a number of people. . .for overseas gigs, possibly most of the people I know.

Actually, it says “U. S. citizenship required”.

The CIA has been recruiting heavily for the past couple of years. They have reached out to my brother at least twice already (ex-Ranger, current SF counter-intel). The recent changes at the top have been the cause of a huge wave of retirements, especially experienced field agents. They are really hurting now, just when human intel-gathering is crucial.

They identify candidates with clearances already, but they also recruit on college campuses and through mass media. They are also offering huge incentives for previous employees to come back to the Company.

If you can survive an incredibly deep background check (and the interviews of your family and friends), then the CIA wants you!

I remember an ad in a graphics arts magazine back in the 1970’s seeking artists for the agency.

More recently I saw a full-page magazine ad (don’t recall which mag, sorry) with this great slogan.

I noticed an ad during Mythbusters. I assume that the CIA assumes that a large portion of the audience is of a scientific/technical bent, and the CIA could use some science people.
