CIA in Peru - no habla Espanol?

This Google Search provides links to several articles about the investigation into the shooting down of a missionary’s light airplane by Peru, back in April. TV reports include the audio/video tape, which clearly show that the CIA’s inability to speak Spanish led directly to the death of the innocents. WTF?? Is this the CIA, or Maxwell Smart’s Control? How can you have operatives, in the front line, controlling (“advising”) the local officials, and have NO ONE AROUND who speaks the local language? How the hell can this be called an “intelligence” agency? We have seen a lot lately about the self-destruction of the FBI, the CIA is following the same road. And for the US to initially blame the pilot, when the CIA brass undoubtedly knew what happened is callous to the extreme. But what can we expect from “dubya” who is not all that well acquainted with intelligence in any form.

[sub]I started to put this in GD, but I don’t see anything to debate.[/sub]

I doubt Dubya has anything whatsoever to do with what secret agents who have what qualifications get sent to Peru, or with how the CIA chooses to handle its initial PR.

Hush! That doesn’t mean he doesn’t deserve to be teased relentlessly for an idiot. Carry on!

Well, you have to understand that sometimes the CIA has trouble finding qualified, specially trained people–high-tech electronic surveillance experts and the like–who also speak exotic foreign languages that few in this country have even heard of like…um…

Spanish.

Doesn’t George W. Bush speak Spanish himself? Hell, we’d have been better off if we’d sent him down personally.
